Moolamattom
Moolamattom is the headquarters of Arakulam Panchayath in Thodupuzha Taluk, Idukki district in Kerala, India. It lies 22 km from Thodupuzha, on the banks of the Thodupuzha River, a tributary of the Muvattupuzha river. Moolamattom is famous for India's second largest underground hydroelectric power station - Idukki Power Station. Moolamattom Power Station Moolamattom Power Station is the biggest underground hydro-electric project in India. The water from the Idukki Dam is carried by the underground pipes to the power station. The installed capacity of the power house is 780 MW consisting of six generator units of 130 MW each. The regulated waters of Periyar fall through a drop of about 669.2 metres (2195 feet) while generating power in the underground power house. Malankara Dam
Malankara dam is a gravity dam constructed across Thodupuzha river for irrigation purposes. The dam is constructed to make use of the tail water from the Moolamattom power house. The project is run under the Muvattupuzha Valley Irrigation Project and KSEB. The artificial lake covers an area of around 11 square km. Tourism Constructed across the Thodupuzha river which is tributary to the Muvattupuzha river, for the purpose of irrigation, this reservoir is also a tourism spot. This artificial lake is located near to the Thodupuzha – Moolamattom Road (State Highway 33) covering an area of around 11 square km. The reservoir is ideal for boating and fishing. Unlike the Idukki and Cheruthoni dams, the Malankara dam is open to tourists round the year. Also a park is under construction nearby to the reservoir covering an adjacent 15 acre island. Idukki Dam
The Idukki Dam is a double curvature arch dam constructed across the Periyar River in a narrow gorge between two granite hills locally known as '' Kuravan'' and ''Kurathi'' in Idukki, Kerala, India. At , it is one of the highest arch dams in Asia. It is constructed and owned by the Kerala State Electricity Board. It supports a 780 MW hydroelectric power station in Moolamattom, which started generating power on 4 October 1975. The dam type is a concrete, double curvature parabolic, thin arc dam. Periyar, , (meaning: ''big river'') is the longest river and the river with the largest discharge potential in the Indian state of Kerala. It is one of the few perennial rivers in the region and provides drinking water for several major towns. The Periyar is of utmost significance to the economy of Kerala. Muvattupuzha () is a town in the midlands directly to the east of Kochi in Ernakulam district, Kerala, India. It is located about from downtown Kochi, and is a growing urban centre in central Kerala. Ilaveezhapoonchira is a tourist destination located in Melukavu village in Kottayam district near Kanjar.
