Montserrado County is a county in the northwestern portion of the West African nation of Liberia containing its national capital, Monrovia. One of 15 counties that comprise the first-level of administrative division in the nation, it has 17 sub political districts. As of the 2008 Census, it had a population of 1,118,241, making it the most populous county in Liberia. The area of the county measures , the smallest in the country. Bensonville serves as the capital. Created in 1847 at the foundation of the country, the county is the oldest in Liberia. Montserrado’s County Superintendent is Nyenekon Beauty Snoh-Barcon. The Liberian National Police is the national police force in Liberia. The LNP's mandate is: *To maintain public order and safety; *To protect people and property; *To identify and recover lost and stolen property; * To prevent, detect and fight crime; * To identify and arrest criminals; *To enforce the law and testify in court. Mount Coffee Hydropower Project
The Mount Coffee Hydropower Project is a hydroelectric project in the West African nation of Liberia on the Saint Paul River. Built in 1966 with additional phases completed later, the project has a maximum generating capacity of 88 MW. The Walter F. Walker Hydro Dam and generating facilities were extensively damaged during the First Liberian Civil War in 1990 and functioning was not restored until 2018. History In 1963, the Liberian government received a loan from the World Bank to develop a US$24.3 million hydro electric project. Construction of the facility began in 1964 by the Monrovia Power Authority using Raymond Concrete Pile Company as the contractor and Stanley Consultants as the project managers. In 1966, the power company completed the initial phase of the dam and began generating electricity.

Greater Monrovia District
Greater Monrovia is one of four districts located in Montserrado County, Liberia. It contains the country's capital Monrovia. It recorded a population of 970,824 in the 2008 census. Greater Monrovia has no official administrative status. Unlike other districts of Liberia which are divided into ''clans'', Greater Monrovia is divided into ''zones''. The Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) is responsible for the administration of the city of Monrovia. History The city of Careysburg was first settled in 1856 by freed slaves from the United States and Barbados.
