Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir
The Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir is a choir from Montreal, Quebec, Canada that sings primarily traditional and contemporary Gospel music. The choir's repertoire also includes a mix of music ranging from Gregorian chant to Bach chorales, traditional Zulu music and a modern Jazz: the oratorio. History The choir was founded and directed by Trevor W. Payne in 1982 and gave its first performance at the St. James United Church in Montreal. The choir was founded to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Montreal's oldest black community church, Union United Church up the street from the Atwater Market on the corner of Delisle and Atwater, which borders the St. Henri and Little Burgundy neighborhoods. The Juno Awards of 1991, representing Canadian music industry achievements of the previous year, were awarded on 3 March 1991 in Vancouver, British Columbia at a ceremony in the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. The Juno Awards of 1990, representing Canadian music industry achievements of the previous year, were awarded on 18 March 1990 in Toronto at a ceremony in the O'Keefe Centre. Rick Moranis was the host for the ceremonies, which were broadcast on CBC Television. Alannah Myles won in three Juno categories on the strength of her internationally successful debut album. Specialty television service YTV would broadcast a repeat of the televised awards ceremony one week later, according to a five-year agreement announced before the 1990 Juno Awards. The Juno Awards, more popularly known as the JUNOS, are awards presented annually to Canadian musical artists and bands to acknowledge their artistic and technical achievements in all aspects of music. New members of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame are also inducted as part of the awards ceremonies. The Juno Awards are often referred to as the Canadian equivalent of the Brit Awards in the United Kingdom or the Grammy Awards given in the United States. Members of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), or a panel of experts, depending on the award, choose the award winners. The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal ( en, Montreal International Jazz Festival) is an annual jazz festival held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The Montreal Jazz Fest holds the 2004 Guinness World Record as the world's largest jazz festival. Every year it features roughly 3,000 artists from 30-odd countries, more than 650 concerts (including 450 free outdoor performances), and welcomes over 2 million visitors (12.5% of whom are tourists) as well as 300 accredited journalists. Martine St-Clair
Martine St. Clair (born Martine Nault, 22 July 1962) is a Canadian singer from the province of Quebec. She has released numerous albums in a career that has spanned over two decades. St. Clair was born in Montreal. In 1981, she was chosen by renowned Quebec lyricist Luc Plamondon to play the role of Cristal in the rock-opera '' Starmania''. The following year, she recorded a duet with French singer Gilbert Bécaud called " L'amour est mort". Her debut solo album in 1983, ''Coeur Ordinateur'', would feature songs written by Plamondon. She also recorded several duets or collaborated with other recording artists. She recorded the song "Closer Together" with Canadian new wave group The Box in 1986.
