Babel II
is a Japanese 1971 manga series by Mitsuteru Yokoyama. It was translated into an animated format in 1973 as a television series, in 1992 as an original video animation series and in 2001 as a thirteen-episode television series. Yokoyama's sequel to the series, set in a parallel universe, is entitled . Plot The series follows Koichi, a Japanese schoolboy, who learns that he is the reincarnation of the alien entity, Babel. As such, Koichi is entrusted with Babel's powers and joined by three protectors: Rodem, a shape-shifting black panther; Ropross, a pterodactyl-like flying creature; and Poseidon, a giant robot that always rises from the depth of the ocean when summoned. Mitsuteru Yokoyama
was a Japanese manga artist born in Suma Ward of Kobe City in Hyōgo Prefecture. His personal name was originally spelled , with the same pronunciation. His works include ''Tetsujin 28-go'', ''Giant Robo'', ''Akakage'', ''Babel II'', ''Sally the Witch'', ''Princess Comet'', and adaptations of the Chinese classics ''Water Margin'' and ''Romance of the Three Kingdoms''. Early life Yokoyama spent his boyhood during World War II and was evacuated to Tottori with his family. He graduated from Kobe municipal Ota junior high school and went on to the Kobe municipal Suma high school. Osamu Tezuka's "Metropolis" made a deep impression on Yokoyama who wished to become a manga artist in earnest and so he contributed his works to a comic book in his high school days. Miki Tori
, also known as Micky Bird or Mickey Bird, is a Japanese manga artist, character designer, essayist, and screenplay writer. Tori has won multiple awards for his work, including two Seiun Awards (in 1994 for ''Dai-Hon'ya'', and in 1998 for ''SF Taishō'') and one Bungeishunjū Manga Award (in 1995 for ''Tōku e Ikitai''). His pen name was created by mixing up the pronunciation of the kanji making up his real name. He worked as a writer on '' WXIII: Patlabor the Movie 3''. Tori attended Meiji University, majoring in English literature, though he left his studies before receiving a degree.
