Monteverde (Rome)
Monteverde is an urban zone of the quarter Gianicolense in Rome, Italy. It is located just outside the Aurelian walls, south of the Janiculum hill and southwest of Trastevere. ''Monteverde'' means ''green mountain'' and is named after a hill upon which the zone is located and which is not part of the classical seven hills of Rome. Overview ''Monteverde'' is usually divided in two parts, ''Monteverde Vecchio'', a mostly early 20th century neighbourhood of stately villas, and ''Monteverde Nuovo'', most of which consists of semi-highrises, constructed in the second half of the 20th century. It has a large middle-class population. Monteverde is a residential area outside of Rome's historical centre. Monteverde is the twelfth canton of the Puntarenas province of Costa Rica. It is located in the Cordillera de Tilarán mountain range. Roughly a four-hour drive from the Central Valley, Monteverde is one of the country's major ecotourism destinations. The area is host to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and several other natural attractions, which draw considerable numbers of tourists and naturalists. The House of Pamphili (often with the final ''long i'' orthography, Pamphilj) was one of the papal families deeply entrenched in Catholic Church, Roman and Italian politics of the 16th and 17th centuries. Later, the Pamphili family line merged with the Doria and Landi family lines to form the Doria-Pamphili-Landi family line. Quattro Venti Railway Station
Quattro Venti is a minor railway station of Rome, located in the district of Monteverde, between the stations of Roma Trastevere and Roma San Pietro. The management of the facilities is entrusted to Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, a company of the Ferrovie dello Stato group, which classifies the station in the "Silver" category. Overview It is served by trains of the FR3 line, forming an intermediate stop between Trastevere railway station and San Pietro railway station. The Banda della Magliana (, ''Magliana Gang'') is an Italian criminal organization based in Rome. It was founded in 1975. Given by the media, the name refers to the original neighborhood, the Magliana, of some of its members. The American Academy in Rome is a research and arts institution located on the Gianicolo (Janiculum Hill) in Rome. The academy is a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers. History In 1893, a group of American architects, painters and sculptors met regularly while planning the fine arts section of the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The group discussed the idea of forming an American school for artists in Europe as a place for American artists to study and further their skills. Led by Charles F. Trastevere
Trastevere () is the 13th ''rione'' of Rome: it is identified by the initials R. XIII and it is located within Municipio I. Its name comes from Latin ''trans Tiberim'', literally 'beyond the Tiber'. Its coat of arms depicts a golden head of a lion on a red background, the meaning of which is uncertain. History In Rome's Regal period (753–509 BC), the area across the Tiber belonged to the Etruscans: the Romans named it ''Ripa Etrusca'' (Etruscan bank). Rome conquered it to gain control of and access to the river from both banks, but was not interested in building on that side of the river.
