Montes de Oca is a Cantons of Costa Rica, canton in the San José Province, San José province of Costa Rica. The head city of the canton is San Pedro District, Montes de Oca, San Pedro. Toponymy Its name honors a former congressional representative from the area, Don Faustino Montes de Oca (1859–1902). History Montes de Oca was created on 1 August 1915 by decree 45. Geography Montes de Oca has an area of km² and a mean elevation of metres. The elongated canton reaches from the suburbs of the national capital of San José, Costa Rica, San José eastward to the province of Cartago, and neighbors the cantons of Curridabat, San José, Costa Rica, San José, Cartago Province, Cartago, and Goicoechea. The Torres River delineate a portion of the northern boundary, while the Ocloro River and Poró Creek mark the southern boundary. Calle De La Amargura
The {{lang, es, Calle de la Amargura ("Bitterness Street") is a four-block-long street located in San Pedro district, Montes de Oca canton, and is one of the best-known zones near San José city. ''La Calle'', as it is often called, is very close to the University of Costa Rica (UCR) and other important higher education centers. Services ''La Calle'' consists of small stores, nightclubs, and bars, most of which are open every day. The area is mostly known for its extensive nightlife scene. Besides its infamous nightlife (see below) it is frequented by UCR students due to the cheap food and photocopying services. Name Origin The name "Calle de la Amargura" is a reference to another street of the same name located in San Lucas Island through which incoming prisoners at the dock had to traverse in order to get to the administrative building of the prison. Interurbano Line (Costa Rica)
Interurbano Line ( es, Tren Interurbano), is a commuter railway line in Costa Rica, operated by the national public railway operator Incofer. The line connects the provinces of Alajuela, Heredia, San José and Cartago. History Costa Rica had two main lines for freight and passenger transportation, the Pacific line (between San José and Puntarenas) and the Atlantic line (between Alajuela, through Heredia and San José to Limón), both of which converge in the San José canton, with the eponymous terminus station of each line a mere 2 kilometer apart, which are connected by rail. Between 1993 and 1995 a brief passenger service made use of the tracks, but it was not enough to keep Incofer working, as the institution have been running in a deficit for a long time, for which it was technically closed in 1995.
