Monte Cristo (company)
Monte Cristo was a French computer game developer and publisher, based in Paris. It was established in 1995 by former Credit Suisse First Boston vice-president Jean-Marc de Fety and former Mars & Co strategy senior consultant Jean-Cristophe Marquis. The company was led by Jean-Christophe Marquis and Jérome Gastaldi since 2002. Monte Cristo declared bankruptcy in May 2010 following poor sales of ''Cities XL''. The first training program was followed by Wall Street Trader, which was named "best educational software" by the European Commission, among others, for its accurate simulation of international stock market conditions, and is one of the most successful games in this genre. ''Dino Island'' is a 2002 PC business simulation video game developed and published by Monte Cristo. In the game, the player builds and manages a dinosaur theme park, and can also crossbreed various dinosaurs to create new ones. ''Dino Island'' received "generally unfavorable" reviews according to Metacritic. Gameplay ''Dino Island'' is a theme park simulator. It is rendered in full 3D - players can rotate, pan and zoom at will. Dinosaurs, staff and visitors are fully animated. The game uses a typical point and click and menu interface. Set in a more or less near future, scientists have managed to recreate dinosaurs. In order to fund research, government has set up dinosaur-themed amusement parks that the player will manage. ''Silverfall'' is an action role-playing video game, developed by software company Monte Cristo for Windows. A port has been made for PlayStation Portable. An expansion for the Windows version of the game, entitled ''Silverfall: Earth Awakening'', was released in 2008. ''Silverfall: Gold Edition'' was also released in 2008, containing the main game as well as the expansion. ''Silverfall'' shares many similarities with popular games, '' Diablo'' and ''Diablo 2''. It also has strong influences from ''Sacred''. Empire Interactive was a British video game developer and publisher based in London. Founded in 1987 by Ian Higgins and Simon Jeffrey, it was acquired by Silverstar Holdings in 2006 and went out of business in 2009. CDV Software Entertainment AG (formerly CDV Software GmbH, stylized as cdv) was a German publisher of video games founded 1989 in Karlsruhe. On April 17, 2000, cdv became a Frankfurt stock market traded company. In the beginning of the 2000s, CDV was the biggest German publisher in the German video game market. As of the 2006 annual financial statements, the company also reported balance sheet over-indebtedness of EUR 1.9 million, which is, however, covered by a subordinated loan taken out in 2005 (see also mezzanine capital) in the amount of EUR 3.8 million. The company's financial position is based on a balance sheet of EUR 1.9 million. They opened a UK office in 2008. In 2010, VG247 reported that they filed for preliminary insolvency when SouthPeak Games failed to pay a settlement. ''City Life'' is a city-building video game developed by Monte Cristo. It is the first modern building game to allow the player to work in full 3D environment. It is published in France by Focus, in the UK and Germany by Deep Silver and in North America by CDV. It was released in May 2006. ''City Life'' allows players to zoom in and see every little bit of detail. The placement method allows buildings to be placed at an angle, as also seen in Sierra Games' ''Caesar IV''. The game was released in Europe for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 2 in March 2006 and exclusively for PlayStation 2 in April 2007 in North America. Plot Professional thieves Robert Taylor, Alan Siegel, and Stephen Foster are hired by the mafia to steal two Rembrandt paintings from a museum in exchange for an extremely valuable diamond. Foster brings his girlfriend, Valerie Carrera, along on the job. The team is able to get one of the paintings out, but the alarm is tripped in the process. Foster immediately flees in the getaway van with a shocked Valerie and the stolen painting, leaving Robert on the side of the road and Alan trapped inside the museum as the police close in. ''7 Sins'' is a life simulation video game where the player must get to the top of the social ladder and make decisions related to the seven deadly sins. The game is set in the fictional Apple City.
