Monroe Township is one of the seventeen townships of Logan County, Ohio, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,739, up from 1,503 at the 2000 census. Geography Located in the south-eastern part of the county, it borders the following townships: * Jefferson Township – north * Perry Township – northeast corner * Zane Township – east * Wayne Township, Champaign County – southeast * Salem Township, Champaign County – south * Liberty Township – west Parts of the villages of West Liberty and Valley Hi are located in southwestern and northern Monroe Township respectively, and the unincorporated community of Pickrelltown lies in the township's north. Ohio State Route 287
State Route 287 (SR 287) is a east–west state highway in the western portion of the U.S. state of Ohio. The western terminus of SR 287 is at SR 245 nearly east of West Liberty. Its eastern terminus is at an interchange with U.S. Route 33 (US 33) about northeast of North Lewisburg that dually serves as the southern terminus of SR 739. This two-lane state route was created in the early 1930s. Until an extension in the late 1990s, SR 287 was entirely within Logan County. The extension into Union County was formerly part of US 33. Route description SR 287 begins at an intersection where SR 245 leads to the west and the south, County Road 1 leads north and SR 287 leads to the east. State Route 245 (SR 245) is an east–west state highway in the western portion of the U.S. state of Ohio. The western terminus of SR 245 is at an intersection with SR 29 near Rosewood. Its eastern terminus is at an exit ramp with U.S. Route 33 (US 33), US 36, and SR 4 in Marysville. Route description SR 245 travels through the northern portion of Champaign County, the southern portion of Logan County and then re-enters Champaign County; the highway also travels through the western part of Union County. Pickrelltown, Ohio
Pickrelltown is an unincorporated community in Logan County, Ohio. The settlement is located at the intersection of County Roads 28 and 29 in northern Monroe Township. It is known for its monument in the middle of the intersection of the town, often thought to be a round-a-bout. Variant names of Pickrelltown include "Frogtown", "Pickereltown", "Pickeretown", and "Pickreltown". History A post office was established at Pickrelltown in 1851, and remained in operation until 1903. The community was named for Henry Pickerel, the proprietor of a local tanyard. Valley Hi, Ohio
Valley Hi is a village in Logan County, Ohio, United States. The population was 228 at the 2020 census. The village is located nearby U.S. Route 33 and is about an hour northwest of Columbus. The village lies mostly in Jefferson Township, but its southernmost portion extends into Monroe Township. Geography Valley Hi is located at , and according to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of , all of it land. The village is located in an area with some of the steepest terrain in normally flat Western Ohio and serves as home to the Mad River Mountain ski area.
