Monroe Symphony Orchestra
The Monroe Symphony (MSO) is a professional American orchestra located in Monroe, Louisiana. The orchestra was founded in 1971 by Dr. Richard Worthington, who served as its musical director from 1971 until 1991. Dr. Clay Couturiaux is the current music director. The orchestra's season consists of classical concerts A concert is a live music performance in front of an audience. An orchestra (; ) is a large instrumental ensemble typical of classical music, which combines instruments from different families. Monroe, Louisiana
Monroe (historically french: Poste-du-Ouachita) is the eighth-largest city in the U.S. state of Louisiana, and parish seat of Ouachita Parish. With a 2020 census-tabulated population of 47,702, it is the principal city of the Monroe metropolitan statistical area, the second-largest metropolitan area in North Louisiana. Etymology As governor of Louisiana, Esteban Rodríguez Miró had ''Fort Miro'' built in 1791. Fort Miro changed its name to Monroe to commemorate the first arrival of the steamboat ''James Monroe'' in the spring of 1820.
