Cally Monrad
Ragnhild Caroline Monrad (31 July 1879, Gran, Oppland – 23 February 1950) was a Norwegian singer, actress and poet. She studied singing in Dresden, stayed in Berlin for a long time, toured with Edvard Grieg, performed for King Oscar II, Haakon VII and Emperor William II. She was a very popular opera singer in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Germany. She ended up as a member of the Nazi Party Nasjonal Samling, and was theatre director at Det Norske Teatret from 1942 to 1945, during the German occupation of Norway. She was sentenced to one year imprisonment in 1947. David Monrad Johansen
David Monrad Johansen (8 November 1888 – 20 February 1974) was a Norway, Norwegian composer. He was born in Vefsn and grew up near Mosjøen, where he received his first piano lessons. He came to Oslo, Christiania (Oslo) in 1904 to study at the conservatory there, and he continued taking lessons with Catharinus Elling, Iver Holter and others until he went to Berlin in 1915 for further studies. In 1920, he went for a study trip to Paris, and here Stravinsky’s music came to make a huge impression on him. In addition he met Fartein Valen, which inspired him to start studying dissonant counterpoint. Later, in 1933 and 1935, he spent short periods abroad for further studies. Ditlev Gothard Monrad
Ditlev Gothard Monrad (24 November 1811 – 28 March 1887) was a Danish politician and bishop, and a founding father of Danish constitutional democracy; he also led the country as Council President in its huge defeat during the Second Schleswig War. Later, he became a New Zealand pioneer before returning to Denmark to become a bishop and politician once more. Monrad's father, Otto Sommer Monrad, an attorney, suffered from mental illness, and spent some years in institutions. Jens Zetlitz Monrad Kielland ( – ) was a Norwegian architect, professor and author. Personal life Jens Kielland was a member of the prominent Kielland family. He was born in Stavanger to parish priest and politician Jacob Kielland (1841–1915) and his wife Diderikke Jørgine (1842–1918), née Monrad. His grandfather was Jens Zetlitz Kielland, and through him, Jens Zetlitz Monrad Kielland was the nephew of painter Kitty Lange Kielland and novelist Alexander Kielland. He had five sisters and four brothers, all of them younger than he was, although one died young. Kielland was a student at the Royal Arts School in Kristiania (1884-86), while attending a Master's degree and assisted at an architectural office. From 1887-90 he studied at the Technische Hochschule Charlottenburg in Berlin. Lars Monrad-Krohn (born July 14, 1933) is a Norwegian engineer and entrepreneur. He graduated from the Norwegian Institute of Technology, Institute for Radio Technology, (NTH, Institutt for Radioteknikk) in 1959. His master thesis addressed construction of computer core memory and was the first computer-oriented thesis handed in at NTH. As an entrepreneur, Monrad-Krohn established Norsk Data AS in 1967 (CEO 1967-1972), established A/S Mycron in 1975 (CEO 1975-1982), and established Tiki-Data in 1984 (CEO 1984-1996). Captain Monrad Sigfrid Metzgen, (1894 – 13 May 1956, Belize) was a politician in the Colony of British Honduras. Life Born in Belize City in June 1893, he was a Belizean Creole of humble parentage. Monrad was the son of Carl Alexander Metzgen, the former Auditor General (1911) of Belize, British Honduras. Metzgen's mother, Esther Almira Bevans (born on 17 January 1869 in Belize and died 1944), was the second wife of his father (the first one was Estelle Greene). His father, Carl Alexander Metzgen (born on 24 July 1860 and killed in Petén on 13 March 1930). His grandfather, Charles Alexander Metzgen, was born 1816 in Copenhagen, Denmark and was son of Johan Christian Metzgen (1784–1843) a retired Danish naval officer. Monrad Oskar Norderval (1902–1976) was a Norwegian bishop in the Church of Norway. Norderval was born in Ålesund, Norway in 1902. He graduated with the cand.theol. degree in 1928 from the Royal Frederick University in Oslo. He began his ministry as an assistant pastor in Skjervøy in 1929. He then served as vicar in Tana from 1929–1935, in Ørsta from 1935–1948, Ålesund from 1948–1961, and was the bishop of the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland from 1961–1972. He also published poems, essay collections, and memoirs. He died in Ålesund in 1976. Monrad Charles Wallgren (April 17, 1891September 18, 1961) was an American politician who served as the 13th governor of Washington from 1945 to 1949, as well as representing that state in the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate. Wallgren, of Swedish descent, was born in Des Moines, Iowa in 1891. His family moved to Texas in 1894 and then to Everett, Washington in 1901. He attended public schools and business college in Everett, graduating from the Washington State School of Optometry in Spokane, Washington in 1914. He worked in retail jewelry and optometry from 1915 to 1932, as well as serving in the Washington National Guard from 1917 to 1919 and 1921 to 1922. He was an outstanding player of carom billiards. In 1932, Wallgren ran for election to the United States House of Representatives as a Democrat.
