Monklands District General Hospital
University Hospital Monklands is a district general hospital in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It serves a population of approximately 260,000 people of North and South Lanarkshire council areas and is managed by NHS Lanarkshire. History Sir John Wilson, 1st Baronet, Sir John Wilson, a businessman and local politician, bequest, bequeathed the land to the people of Airdrie and it became the local maternity hospital (Airdrie House Maternity Home Hospital) in 1919. The facility closed as a maternity hospital in 1962 and was completely demolished in 1964. Originally planned as Airdrie District General Hospital, following a local Subdivisions of Scotland, council reorganisation, the new acute hospital on the site became known as Monklands District General Hospital. NHS Lanarkshire is responsible for the health care of more than 652,000 people living within the subdivisions of Scotland, council areas of North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire in Scotland, making it the third largest health board in the country after NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and NHS Lothian. NHS Lanarkshire employs approximately 12,000 staff. The board is based at Kirklands, Fallside Road in Bothwell, South Lanarkshire. Services There are three district general hospitals in the area - University Hospital Hairmyres, University Hospital Monklands and University Hospital Wishaw. Each of them has an Emergency medicine, accident and emergency department and provides a range of specialist medical and surgical services.
