Monk's Hill Secondary School
The former Monk's Hill Secondary School (Abbreviation: MHSS; ) was a secondary school in Newton, Singapore. History Founding Monk's Hill Secondary School was founded in 1958 on a plot of land that was once the site of a Chinese monastery. The name ‘Monk’s Hill’ is a reminder of this piece of history. 1960 Monk's Hill presented its first batch of candidates for the national School Certificate Examination. In 1961 Monk's Hill was converted into an integrated school, offering both Malay- and English-stream classes. Monk's Hill Secondary held its first Speech and Prize-Presentation Day in 1967, and witnessed the formation of its School Advisory Committee in 1968. In 1976, Monk's Hill established itself as an English-medium school with effect of the merger of the two national education streams, namely Chinese and English streams. Balestier Hill Secondary School
The former Balestier Hill Secondary School (Abbreviation: BHSS) was a secondary school in Novena, Singapore. The school was merged into Beatty Secondary School in 2017. History Founding On 24 June 1964, the Minister of Education, Ong Pang Boon, declared the school open as "Balestier Hill Integrated Secondary Technical School". It was one of the first six secondary technical schools to be opened in Singapore, and was an "integrated" school because it had both Chinese and English streams. The school was located at Balestier Hill, named after Joseph Balestier, the first United States Consul of Singapore. Cheong Pak Lo was the principal. In 1975, the school song was rewritten by two teachers, Chew Y.C. and Yeo S.B.. The school song had both English and Chinese lyrics, that were sung together. This is a list of primary schools in Singapore. Children typically start their primary education in the year they turn seven. Primary education lasts six years, and is compulsory for all Singapore citizens. Primary schools in Singapore are classified as Government or Government-aided schools. Primary schools are typically mixed-sex, though there are a number of single-sex schools. Some primary schools are affiliated with a secondary school, and such schools may have a lower requirement for students from the primary section to enter the affiliated secondary school. Novena is a planning area located within the Central Region of Singapore. Novena is bounded by Toa Payoh to the north, Bukit Timah to the west, Tanglin to the south and Kallang to the east. While Novena is not classified as a "new town" by the Housing and Development Board (HDB), the estate of Whampoa within the subzone of Balestier constitutes part of the Kallang/Whampoa New Town. Anglo-Chinese School (ACS) is a family of Methodist schools in Singapore and Indonesia. It was founded in 1886 by Bishop William Fitzjames Oldham as an extension of the Methodist Church. Anglo-Chinese School is usually abbreviated as "ACS", with Anglo-Chinese Junior College abbreviated as "ACJC". Its students and alumni are referred to as "ACSians" (). K. Muralidharan Pillai ( ta, முரளி பிள்ளை; born 30 October 1967), better known as Murali Pillai, is a Singaporean politician and lawyer. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he has been the Member of Parliament (MP) representing Bukit Batok SMC since 2016.
