Monica Collingwood
Monica Collingwood (1908–1989) was an American film editor who was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Film Editing at the 1947 Academy Awards for the Henry Koster drama ''The Bishop's Wife'' (1947). Biography Monica was born in Jackson, Missouri, to Joseph Collingwood (a British immigrant) and Elizabeth Emery (a native of Luxembourg). When the family moved west to California, her father worked as a policeman at one of the big film studios. The Academy Award for Best Film Editing is one of the annual awards of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). Nominations for this award are closely correlated with the Academy Award for Best Picture. For 33 consecutive years, 1981 to 2013, every Best Picture winner had also been nominated for the Film Editing Oscar, and about two thirds of the Best Picture winners have also won for Film Editing. In 1980, ''Ordinary People'' won as Best Picture, but its editor Jeff Kanew was not nominated for Best Editing. Henry Koster
Henry Koster (born Hermann Kosterlitz, May 1, 1905 – September 21, 1988) was a German-born film director. He was the husband of actress Peggy Moran. Early life Koster was born to Jewish parents in Berlin, Germany. He was introduced to cinema about 1910 when his uncle opened a movie theater in Berlin. Koster's mother played the piano to accompany the films, leaving the young boy to occupy himself by watching the films. After working initially as a short story writer, Kosterlitz was hired by a Berlin movie company as scenarist, becoming an assistant to director Curtis Bernhardt. Bernhardt became sick one day and asked Kosterlitz to take over as director. Career In 1932, Koster directed his first film in Berlin, the comedy ''Thea Roland''. Created by Robert Maxwell, ''Lassie'' premiered on CBS on September 12, 1954, where it aired for seventeen seasons, before moving to first run syndication for its final two seasons.
