Monferrier Dorval
Monferrier Dorval, born in Grande-Saline, town of the Artibonite department on June 10, 1956, was the president of the Ordre des Avocats de Port-au-Prince ("order of the lawyers"), assassinated in his private residence on August 28, 2020. Life Monferrier Dorval left his home town in 1969 after completing his primary education. He subsequently attended Lycée Alexandre Pétion where he completed his secondary studies in 1976. Pétion-Ville
Pétion-Ville ( ht, Petyonvil) is a commune and a suburb of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in the hills east and separate from the city itself on the northern hills of the Massif de la Selle. Founded in 1831 by president Jean-Pierre Boyer, it was named after Alexandre Sabès Pétion (1770–1818), the Haitian general and president later recognized as one of the country's four founding fathers. The district is primarily a residential and touristic area. It had a population of 283,052 at the 2003 Census, which was officially estimated to have reached 376,834 in 2015. Many diplomats, foreign businessmen, and wealthy citizens engage in business and reside in Pétion-Ville. Despite the distance from the capital and the general affluence of the district, the lack of administrative enforcement has led to the formation of shantytowns on the outer edges of the district, as poor locals migrate upward and have settled there in search of job opportunities. Artibonite (department)
Artibonite ( French) or Latibonit (Haitian Creole) is one of the ten departments of Haiti located in central Haiti. With an area of 4,887 km2 it is Haiti's largest department. As of 2015, its estimated population was 1,727,524. The region is the country's main rice-growing area. The main cities are Gonaïves (the capital) and Saint-Marc. In February 2004 an insurgency tried unsuccessfully to declare Artibonite's independence. The State University of Haiti (french: Université d'État d'Haïti (UEH)) is one of Haiti's most prestigious institutions of higher education. It is located in Port-au-Prince. Its origins date to the 1820s, when colleges of medicine and law were established. In 1942, the various faculties merged into the University of Haiti. After a student Strike action, strike in 1960, François Duvalier's government brought the university under firm government control and renamed it the State University of Haiti. In 1983, the university became an independent institution according to the Haitian constitution. The university's independent status was confirmed in the Haitian constitution of 1987.
