Penance (Monet Yvette Clarisse Maria Therese St. Croix) is a fictional Female superheroes, superheroine and Mutant (Marvel Comics), mutant appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character appears in the ''X-Men'' series of comic books, and first appeared in ''The Uncanny X-Men'' #316 (Sept. 1994). Created by writer Scott Lobdell and artist Chris Bachalo, she was originally a member of the teenage mutant group Generation X (comics), Generation X (1994), and later X-Factor Investigations, X-Factor and X-Men (comic book), X-Men. Monet is a Muslim superhero and has illustrated the struggle of accepting "different" people central to X-Men stories. ''X-Men '' is a comic book ongoing series featuring the titular namesake team of superheroes, published in various incarnations by Marvel Comics, beginning in 1963. During its revival under writer Chris Claremont, the first series was eventually renamed ''The Uncanny X-Men'' with issue #114 (October 1978). In 1991 a second companion series debuted, marking the first time that more than one ''X-Men'' series would be published. ''Avengers Academy'' is a Marvel Comics comic book series that debuted in June 2010 as part of the " Heroic Age", and concluded after thirty-nine issues in November 2012. The series was written by Christos Gage, with artwork by Mike McKone and tells the story of a group of young super-powered persons who were selected to join a training academy for the super-hero team, the Avengers. Publication history Marvel first announced the launch of ''Avengers Academy'' by the creative team of Christos Gage and Mike McKone in March 2010 by releasing a set of teaser images featuring students from the title.
