Monday Merotohun
Monday Merotohun (born 2 November 1977 in Ado-Odo, Ogun) is a Nigerian table tennis player. Playing with his partner Segun Toriola, Merotohun defeated Egypt's El-sayed Lashin and Ahmed Saleh for the gold medal in the men's doubles at the 2007 All-Africa Games in Algiers, Algeria. As of September 2012, Merotohun is ranked no. 184 in the world by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). He is a member of AS TT Sport Club Etna Riposto in Catania, Sicily, Italy, and is coached and trained by Obisanya Babatunde. Merotohun is also right-handed, and uses the shakehand grip. Merotohun made his official debut at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where he competed in both the singles and doubles tournaments. Ado-Odo
' Ado-Odo is the metropolitan headquarters of the kingdom of Ado, renowned for its Oduduwa/ Obatala temple, the ancient fortress of the traditional practice of Ifá (''Ado n'ile Ifa''). Oodu'a is also regarded by traditionalists as the mother of all deities worldwide. All of these made Ado an inviolate territory in western Yorubaland—the same "father-figure" status accorded to Ile-Ife. Alexei Smirnov (table Tennis)
Alexey Smirnov (born October 9, 1977) is a male table tennis player from Russia. Since 2003 he won several medals in doubles events in the Table Tennis European Championships. He also won the gold medal at the Europe Top-12 in 2005 at Rennes. He is also a multiple Russian national champion – four times in Men Singles and five in Men Doubles. He was also part of the winning cadet European Youth Championship team in 1992, as well as being the winner of the men's singles, the men's doubles and the mixed doubles at the junior level at the 1995 European Youth Championships. He also won the junior men's doubles at the 1994 European Youth Championships. In May 2011 he qualified for the London 2012 Olympic Games via his world ranking for June 2011. Table Tennis At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's Team
The men's team table tennis event was part of the table tennis programme and took place between August 13 and 18, at the Peking University Gymnasium. Teams consisted of three members. The sixteen teams were divided into four groups of four teams each, playing a round-robin within their pool. The top team in each pool advanced to the semifinals, with the second-place team from each group going to the bronze medal playoffs. The two semifinal winners met in the gold medal match, while the two semifinal losers each played against one of the winners from the bronze medal playoffs, with the winners of those games meeting in the bronze medal match. Each match consisted of up to five games, with the first team to win three being declared the winner. The first two games in each match were singles, the third was doubles, and the final two were singles again. Each team member competed in two of the five games, according to a set rotation. Ilija Lupulesku ( sr-cyr, Илија Лупулеску; born October 30, 1967) is a former Serbian and later American table tennis player who competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics, 1988, 1992 Summer Olympics, 1992, 1996 Summer Olympics, 1996, 2000 Summer Olympics, 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics. He became a naturalized citizen, naturalized U.S. citizen in 2002 and competed for the United States from 2004 to 2006. Ilija Lupulesku played his first game of table tennis at age nine in his small hometown of Uzdin, Yugoslavia. After seeing other children playing at his local school, he picked up a paddle and began what would become his life's ambition. Mark Hazinski
Mark "Haz" Hazinski (born April 20, 1985, in South Bend, Indiana) is an American professional table tennis athlete. He started playing table tennis at the age of 9 and by the age of 15 had become the youngest player in the history of United States Table Tennis to make the United States Men's National Table Tennis Team. Hazinski simultaneously represented the United States Men's Team and United States Junior Team for 4 consecutive years (2000-2003). As a youth Hazinski was professionally trained by United States Olympic Head Coach Danny Seemiller and United States Junior Coach Mark Nordby. Hazinski spent multiple years (2004–2006) playing professional sports leagues in Germany and Sweden.
