Georgina Elizabeth Ward, Countess of Dudley (9 August 1846 – 2 February 1929) was a British noblewoman and a noted beauty of the Victorian era. Early life and family Georgina was born in Dunbarney, Perthshire, Scotland – "the third of a series of sisters all famous for their good looks" – to Sir Thomas Moncreiffe of that Ilk, 7th Baronet, and Lady Louisa Hay-Drummond, daughter of Thomas Hay-Drummond, 11th Earl of Kinnoull. Her sister Harriet became Lady Mordaunt; another sister, Louisa, married John Stewart-Murray, 7th Duke of Atholl. Marriage In the summer of 1865, the engagement was announced between the 18-year-old Georgina and the 48-year-old William Ward, 1st Earl of Dudley, a wealthy land and mine owner. Sir Rupert Iain Kay Moncreiffe of that Ilk, 11th Baronet (9 April 1919 – 27 February 1985), Chief of Clan Moncreiffe, was a British Officer of Arms and genealogist. Biography Moncreiffe was the son of Lieutenant-Commander Gerald Moncreiffe, RN, and Hilda, daughter of the Comte de Miremont. The Hon. Peregrine David Euan Malcolm Hay, later Moncreiffe of that Ilk, Baron of Easter Moncreiffe and Chief of Clan Moncreiffe (born 16 February 1951), is the second son of Sir Iain Moncreiffe of that Ilk, 11th Baronet Moncreiffe and Diana Denyse Hay, 23rd Countess of Errol. He is also the younger brother of Sir Merlin Sereld Victor Gilbert Hay, 12th Baronet Moncreiffe, 24th Earl of Erroll and Chief of Clan Hay. Biography He was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford. While at Christ Church he rowed for Oxford at number 7 in the 1972 Boat Race; this was a bleak period for Oxford and his crew lost by nine and a half lengths. He became an investment banker and later became a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers. He is a Member of the Royal Company of Archers. Sir Thomas Moncreiffe, 7th Baronet
Sir Thomas Moncreiffe, 7th Baronet (9 January 1822 – 16 August 1879) was a Scottish first-class cricketer and British Army officer. The son of Sir David Moncreiffe and his wife, Helen Mackay, he was born at Moncreiffe House in Perthshire in January 1822. His father died in November 1830, with Moncreiffe succeeding him as the 8th Baronet of the Moncreiffe baronets. He was educated at Harrow School, after which he joined the Scots Guards. He made his debut in first-class cricket for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) against Cambridge University at Lord's in 1841. He later transferred to the Grenadier Guards and by January 1846, he had been promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel, while serving in the Royal Perthshire Militia. In 1848, he appeared twice for the MCC in two first-class matches played against Oxford University and the Surrey Club. Moncreiffe Hill
Moncreiffe Hill (also known as Moredun Hill)''Official Guide to Perth and Its Neighbourhood by the Tramway Car Routes'' – Perth Town Council (1907), p. 23 is a long, wooded ridge that lies south of Perth, Scotland. It can be easily seen on the right during the final stages of the drive north towards Perth on the M90 motorway. Unlike most Scottish hills, the routes to the summit are almost entirely under tree cover, although the summit area, which is known as Moredun Top, is clear and offers impressive views over Perth and the River Tay. The shortest route to the summit is from the north, starting at the car park at NO138209. Another route to the summit, albeit a longer route, starts from the south east, starting at NO153192, which is signposted from the nearest public road and where there is sufficient parking space. Moncreiffe Island
Moncreiffe Island, also known as Friarton Island, is an island in Perth, Scotland. It divides the River Tay into two channels as it flows through Perth, and is crossed by the single-track Tay Viaduct, carrying the Scottish Central Railway. Land use The King James VI Golf Course is situated on and covers much of the island with the remaining land used for allotments. At the 2011 census, it is the only permanently inhabited freshwater island in Scotland which is not on Loch Lomond. Wildlife There are wild garlic, common bluebells, sweet cicely, broom and dog violet Dog violet is the common name for various species of the plant genus ''Viola'' with unscented flowers. History Origins of the clan The name Moncreiffe comes from the feudal barony of Moncreiffe in Perthshire. The lands of Moncreiffe take their name from the ''Monadh croibhe'' which is Scottish Gaelic for ''Hill of the sacred bough''. The plant badge of the clan is the oak and this presumably comes from the sacred tree. Moncreiffe Hill dominates the south-east Perth valley and was a stronghold of the Pictish kings. This connects the clan with the lands of Atholl and Dundas, both of which were held by branches of the Picto-Scottish royal house. Baron Moncreiff, of Tulliebole in the County of Kinross, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 9 January 1874 for the lawyer and Liberal politician Sir James Moncreiff, 1st Baronet. He had already been created a Baronet, of Kilduff in the County of Kinross, in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on 23 May 1871. In 1883 Lord Moncreiff also succeeded his elder brother as 11th Baronet, of Moncreiff in the County of Perth. On his death the titles passed to his eldest son, the second Baron. He was a Judge of the Court of Session from 1888 to 1905 under the title of ''Lord Wellwood'' and served as Lord Lieutenant of Kinross-shire between 1901 and 1909.
