Monaville, Texas
Monaville is an unincorporated community in Waller County, Texas, United States, at the intersection of FM 359 and FM 1887. The town was named for its founder's daughter in 1886. History The town was founded by Daniel C. Singletary who opened a grocery store in 1886. Singletary named the settlement after his daughter Mona. The community boasted a post office from 1886 to 1913 when it closed. At this time, Monaville had a school and a cotton gin. In 1941 a total of 75 persons lived in the town. By 1987 the community had a single business and the residents engaged in agricultural pursuits including raising cattle. Between 1990 and 2000 the population remained steady at 180. Geography Monaville is located south of Pine Island on FM 359 at the intersection of FM 1887. FM 359 crosses over Harris Creek a short distance to the north. Farm to Market Road 359 (FM 359) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas. The highway begins at U.S. Route 90 Alternate (US 90A) near Richmond in Fort Bend County. FM 359 heads in a northwesterly direction through Pecan Grove and Fulshear to Interstate 10 at Brookshire in Waller County. Continuing to the northwest, the highway passes through the small communities of Pattison, Monaville and Pine Island before ending at U.S. Route 290 (US 290) and Texas Highway 6 (SH 6) east of Hempstead. Route description FM 359 begins at a traffic signal on US 90A northeast of the Brazos River bridge at Richmond. Pine Island is a town in Waller County, Texas, United States near the intersection of Farm to Market Road 359 and Farm to Market Road 3346. The population was 988 at the 2010 census. It is not affiliated with the uninhabited island of the same name in Lake Livingston. Geography Pine Island is located at (30.063433, –96.022968). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 9.3 square miles (24.2 km2), of which, 9.3 square miles (24.2 km2) of it is land and 0.11% is water. The western boundary of the town is formed by Clear Creek which flows from north to south. U.S. Route 290 Business on either side of FM 359 is part of the northern town limit. Hempstead is a city in and the county seat of Waller County, Texas, United States, part of the metropolitan area. History On December 29, 1856, Dr. Richard Rodgers Peebles and James W. McDade organized the Hempstead Town Company to sell lots in the newly established community of Hempstead, which was located at the projected terminus of Houston and Texas Central Railway. Peebles named Hempstead after Dr. G. S. B. Hempstead, Peebles's brother-in-law. Peebles and Mary Ann Groce Peebles, his wife, contributed of the estate of Jared E. Groce, Jr., for the community. On June 29, 1858, the Houston and Texas Central Railway was extended to Hempstead, causing the community to become a distribution center between the Gulf Coast and the interior of Texas. Hempstead Independent School District is a public school district based in Hempstead, Texas (USA). The school district contains 3 schools and an early childhood learning center. The district serves Hempstead and unincorporated areas in Waller County, including Monaville. Despite a small school population the district takes up a large amount of rural area. Monaville Independent School District
Monaville Independent School District was a former school district in Waller County, Texas. It was established in 1930 as a consolidation of the Monaville School (Monaville Community School District or School District No. 13) and the nearby Sunnyside School along with other rural schools. The Bracy Island and Aurora areas had previously consolidated with Monaville. By 1953 the district was dissolved, with portions going to the Pattison Independent School District and the Hempstead Independent School District; the area rural population experienced a population decline beginning with the Great Depression.
