The Monastery of the Immaculate Conception (Spanish: ''Monasterio de la Inmaculada Concepción'') is a monastery of Dominican nuns located in the Spanish town of Loeches, in front of the Town square of the Duchess of Alba. It is also known as "The Big Convent (El Convento Grande)". It was declared ''Bien de Interés Cultural'' in 1982. History It was founded in 1640 by Gaspar de Guzmán y Pimentel, III count-duke of Olivares, Favourite of King Philip IV . The work was completed by his nephew, Luis Méndez de Haro, Marqués del Carpio and Count-Duke of Olivares and, later, It would become one of the richest churches in pictorial works in Spain, with objects given to the Count-Duke of Olivares by King Philip IV. Charles-Alphonse-Achille Guméry (14 June 1827 – 19 January 1871) was a French sculptor working in an academic realist manner in Paris. Several of his figures ornament the Opéra Garnier most notoriously the group ''La Danse'', which was commissioned from him after the group by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux was found unacceptable. Though he was born in the ''quartier'' of Vaugirard in Paris, Charles Guméry was from a middle-class Savoyard family established by his father at Passy.His father, Nicolas Guméry, was a schoolteacher. A student of Armand Toussaint (1806–1862) at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, in 1850 he received the Prix de Rome, the ''sine qua non'' for an official career as a French sculptor. ''Eugenia'' is a genus of flowering plants in the myrtle family Myrtaceae. It has a worldwide, although highly uneven, distribution in tropical and subtropical regions. The bulk of the approximately 1,100 species occur in the New World tropics, especially in the northern Andes, the Caribbean, and the Atlantic Forest (coastal forests) of eastern Brazil. Juan Bautista Lázaro de Diego ( León, 1849 - Ciempozuelos, 1919) was a Spanish architect, born to jurist José Benito Lázaro and '' astorgana'' María de Diego Pinillos. He was a disciple of Juan de Madrazo, a gothic revivalist in charge of León Cathedral's restoration, a project in which Lázaro de Diego took part, specializing in stained glass workmanship. He received a gold medal in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts of 1897 and the Great Cross of Isabella the Catholic in 1901. From 1875 to 1879 he worked as town-architect in Ávila. He developed a remarkable activity in the restoration of architectural heritage in the late nineteenth century. Jacobo Fitz-James Stuart y Falcó, 17th Duke of Alba, 10th Duke of Berwick, GE (17 October 1878 – 24 September 1953) was a Spanish peer, diplomat, politician, art collector and Olympic medalist.
