Monaleen GAA club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Castletroy, County Limerick, Ireland. The club was founded in 1957 and fields teams in both Gaelic football and hurling. Camogie being the female hurling code is also played. With over 300 players playing camogie. The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Castletroy
Castletroy (, meaning O'Troy's Landing or O'Troy's Callow) is a suburb of Limerick, Ireland. The town was named after Castle Troy also known as The Black Castle, which is located on the southern bank of the River Shannon, roughly 2km East of the University of Limerick. However the name likely predates the castle itself as the area may have been used by the O’Turrain clan (who were no longer in the area by the time the castle was built) having used it as a safe harbour for navigating the river. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). Hurling
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. The Limerick Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Lyons of Limerick County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Limerick PIHC) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Limerick County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking intermediate clubs in the county of Limerick in Ireland. It is the second tier overall in the entire Limerick hurling championship system. The Limerick Premier Intermediate Championship was introduced in 2014 following a split in the existing Limerick Intermediate Hurling Championship. Limerick Intermediate Hurling Championship
The Limerick Intermediate Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition organised by the Limerick County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association for the third tier hurling teams in the county of Limerick in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer and autumn months with the county final currently being played at the Gaelic Grounds in October. Brian Geary
Brian Geary (born 1980) is an Irish hurler who played as a centre-forward for the Limerick senior team. Geary made his first appearance for the team during the 1999 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 2012 championship. A two-time All-Ireland medalist in the under-21 grade, he enjoyed little success as a member of the county senior team. Geary ended up an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. At club level Geary is a four-time county football championship medalist with Monaleen. Playing career Club Geary has enjoyed much success as a Gaelic footballer with the Monaleen club. Lorcan Lyons (born 1996) who plays for Limerick Senior Championship club Monaleen. He usually lines out as a left corner-forward. Lyons is a former member of the Limerick senior hurling team. Playing career Castletroy College Lyons first came to prominence as a hurler with Castletroy College in Limerick. Having played in every grade, he was at midfield on the college's senior team that contested the Harty Cup. Limerick Institute of Technology During his studies at the Limerick Institute of Technology, La Touche Cosgrave was selected for the college's senior hurling team for the Fitzgibbon Cup.
