Momulu Massaquoi
Momulu Massaquoi (1869–1938) was a Liberian politician, diplomat, and monarch of the Vai people of Sierra Leone and Liberia. He served as Liberia's consul general to Germany 1922–1930, and appears to be the first indigenous African diplomat to modern Europe. Early life Massaquoi was born on 6 December 1869 to King Lahai of the Gallinas Kingdom and his wife, Queen Fatama Bendu Sandemani of N’Jabacca. He attended a mission school in Cape Mount, before traveling to the United States to attend Central Tennessee College. Massaquoi was required by his mother to begin to study at an early age. His parents were both Muslims, and in the hopes that their son might learn to read the Quran, they placed him as a student of a Muslim cleric when he was eight years old. Hans Massaquoi
Hans-Jürgen Massaquoi (January 19, 1926 – January 19, 2013) was a German-American journalist and author. He was born in Hamburg, Germany, to a German mother and a Liberian father of Vai ethnicity, the grandson of Momulu Massaquoi, the consul general of Liberia in Germany at the time. He wrote his autobiography ''Destined to Witness. Growing up Black in Nazi Germany'', published in 1999. The German translation of it was published the same year, as ''Neger, Neger, Schornsteinfeger. Meine Kindheit in Deutschland.'' The German version was adapted as a film ' and released in 2006. He later published a second autobiography, only in German: ''Hänschen klein, ging allein … Mein Weg in die Neue Welt'' (2004). Fasia Jansen (June 6, 1929 - December 29, 1997) was a German political singer-songwriter (''Liedermacher)'' and peace activist. Life and career Fasia Jansen was born in Hamburg; she was the illegitimate daughter of the German chambermaid Elli Jansen and the Liberian Consul General Momolu Massaquoi (1869-1938), grandfather of the journalist and writer Hans-Jürgen Massaquoi (1926-2013).Although both grew up in close proximity to each other, they did not know each other personally. Fatima Massaquoi
Fatima Massaquoi-Fahnbulleh (; 25 December 1912 – 26 November 1978) was a Liberian writer and academic. After completing her education in the United States, she returned to Liberia in 1946, making significant contributions to the cultural and social life of the country. Born into a family of African royalty, Massaquoi grew up in the care of an aunt in Njagbacca, in the Garwula District of Grand Cape Mount County of southern Liberia. After seven years, she returned to the northwestern part of the country in Montserrado County, where she began her schooling. In 1922 she accompanied her father, a diplomat, to Hamburg, Germany, where she completed her school education and started a course in medicine at the University of Hamburg. In 1937 she moved to the United States for further education, studying sociology and anthropology at Lane College, Fisk University and Boston University.
