Momo (novel)
''Momo'', also known as ''The Grey Gentlemen'' or ''The Men in Grey'', is a fantasy novel by Michael Ende, published in 1973. It is about the concept of time and how it is used by humans in modern societies. The full title in German (''Momo oder Die seltsame Geschichte von den Zeit-Dieben und von dem Kind, das den Menschen die gestohlene Zeit zurückbrachte'') translates to ''Momo, or the strange story of the time-thieves and the child who brought the stolen time back to the people''. The book won the Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis in 1974. Plot In the ruins of an amphitheatre just outside an unnamed city lives Momo, a little girl of mysterious origin. She came to the ruin, parentless and wearing a long, used coat. She is illiterate and cannot count, and she doesn't know how old she is. Michael Ende
Michael Andreas Helmuth Ende (12 November 1929 – 28 August 1995) was a German writer of fantasy and children's fiction. He is known for his epic fantasy ''The Neverending Story'' (with its 1980s film adaptation and a 1995 animated television adaptation); other well-known works include ''Momo'' and '' Jim Button and Luke the Engine Driver''. His works have been translated into more than 40 languages, sold more than 35 million copies. Early life Ende was born 12 November 1929 in Garmisch, Bavaria, the only child of the surrealist painter Edgar Ende and Luise Bartholomä Ende, a physiotherapist. In 1935, when Michael was six, the Ende family moved to the "artists' quarter of Schwabing" in Munich (Haase). ''Momo'' ( it, Momo alla conquista del tempo, also known as ''Momo, the Conquest of Time'') is a 2001 Italian-German animation film directed by Enzo D'Alò. It is an adaptation of the 1973 fantasy novel ''Momo'' by Michael Ende. It spawned an animated series in 2003. John Huston
