Momigi
Momigi (foaled 1972 in Ontario) was a Canadian three-time Champion Thoroughbred racehorse. Background Momigi was bred by E. P. Taylor at his Windfields Farm in Oshawa, Ontario. She was sold to Japanese veterinarian Koichiro Hayata whose Hayata Farm would later breed 1996 Japanese Triple Crown winner and Horse of the Year, Narita Brian. Trained by John Morahan, Momigi was based at Toronto's Woodbine Racetrack. Racing career At age two, the colt's best result was a third in the Natalma Stakes then at age three she won the Duchess and Wonder Where Stakes and ended L'Enjoleur's hope's for a Canadian Triple Crown when she beat her male counterparts to win the third leg on turf, the Breeders' Stakes. Nassau Stakes (Canada)
The Nassau Stakes is a Canadian Thoroughbred horse race held annually at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario. A Grade II event raced in early June, it is open to horses aged three and older and run over a distance of one mile on turf. Currently, the Nassau Stakes offers a purse of $153,540. Inaugurated in 1956, it was raced on dirt until 1968 when it was shifted permanently to the turf. Breeders' Stakes
The Breeders' Stakes is a stakes race for Thoroughbred race horses foaled in Canada, first run in 1889. Since 1959, it has been the third race in the Canadian Triple Crown for three-year-olds. Held annually in August at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario, the Breeders' Stakes follows the June running of the King's Plate and the July running of the Prince of Wales Stakes. At a distance of one-and-a-half miles, the Breeders' Stakes is the longest of the three Triple Crown races and is the only jewel raced on turf (the King's Plate is raced on Tapeta synthetic dirt and the Prince of Wales on a traditional dirt track). The Canadian Triple Crown (branded as the OLG Canadian Triple Crown for sponsorship reasons) is a series of three Thoroughbred horse races run annually in Canada which is open to three-year-old horses foaled in Canada. Established in 1959, the series is unique in that it shares the same distances as its American counterpart but is contested on three different track surfaces. Northern Dancer Breeders' Cup Turf
The Northern Dancer Turf Stakes is a Canadian Thoroughbred horse race held annually at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario in mid-September. A Grade I event with a current purse of Can$300,000, it is run at a distance of miles on Woodbine's E. P. Taylor turf course. Inaugurated as the Niagara Handicap, it was first raced on dirt at the Fort Erie Racetrack. In 1957 the race was changed to run on turf and was moved to the Woodbine Racetrack in 1985 where for 1986 only, it was run on dirt. Seagram Cup Stakes
The Chinese Cultural Centre Seagram Cup Stakes is a Thoroughbred horse race run annually during the last week of July/first week of August at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. A Grade III event, it is open to horses Three years old and up. Raced over a distance of one and one-sixteenth miles, the race currently offers a purse of $115,065. The Seagram Cup was inaugurated at the Old Woodbine Racetrack in 1903. A race on dirt, it was named in honor of owner/breeder Joseph E. The Canadian Stakes is a Grade II Thoroughbred horse race run annually at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Run in mid September, it is a Grade II event open to fillies and mares, three years of age and older. It is raced on turf over a distance of "about" miles. Held during the end of July/first week in August, it is the third leg of Canadian Triple Tiara series for Canadian-foaled three-year-old fillies. Raced on Turf, the Wonder Where Stakes currently offers a purse of Can$250,000. Since inception in 1965, it has been contested at miles (10 furlongs) except for 1994 when the distance was set at miles (9 furlongs).
