"Moments of Pleasure" is a song written and recorded by British musician Kate Bush, released in November 1993 as the third single from Bush's seventh studio album, '' The Red Shoes'' (1993). The song peaked at number 26 on the UK Singles Chart. Composition In this song, Bush remembers friends and family who have died, including guitarist Alan Murphy, film director Michael Powell, dancer Gary Hurst, lighting engineer Bill Duffield, and others. Composer and musician Michael Kamen arranged and conducted the orchestra, expanding on Bush's original piano accompaniment. Bush wrote the chorus "to those we love, to those who will survive" for her mother, who was sick at the time of recording. She died a short time later. The ''Director's Cut'' version features the chorus without lyrics. ''Director's Cut'' is the ninth studio album by English singer-songwriter Kate Bush, released on 16 May 2011. It contains no new material, consisting of songs from her earlier albums '' The Sensual World'' (1989) and '' The Red Shoes'' (1993) which have been remixed and restructured, three of which were re-recorded completely. It was Bush's first album release since 2005's '' Aerial'' and the first on her own record label, Fish People. Bush wrote all of the songs and lyrics with the exception of lines borrowed from James Joyce. The album has received mostly positive critical reviews. Praise has appeared in various publications such as AllMusic and '' The Scotsman''. Welling
Welling is an area of South East London, England, in the London Borough of Bexley, west of Bexleyheath, southeast of Woolwich and of Charing Cross. Before the creation of Greater London in 1965, it was in the historical county of Kent. Etymology Local legend has it that Welling is so called because in the era of horse-drawn vehicles it could be said you were "well in" to Kent, or had a "well end" to the journey up and down Shooters Hill which, at the time was steep, had a poor road surface and was a notorious haunt of highwaymen. Michael Arnold Kamen (April 15, 1948 – November 18, 2003) was an American composer (especially of film scores), orchestral arranger, orchestral conductor, songwriter, and session musician. Biography Early life Michael Arnold Kamen was born in New York City, the second of four sons. His father, Saul Kamen, was a dentist, and his mother, Helen, was a teacher. He was of Jewish heritage.
