Mok Hing Ling
Mok Hing Ling ( zh, 莫慶靈) is a contemporary Chinese artist known for her modern ink paintings. Her works often explore themes of nature, utilizing innovative techniques including the use of a sponge to mimic natural textures. In 1973, Mok settled in Hong Kong and started her art career. She concentrated on Chinese ink wash painting under Ding Yanyong in the 1970s, and later Cheung Kwan-sut. She has spent more than twenty years developing her Chinese ink painting skills. She appears in a fusion of many painting techniques that combines conventional painting techniques with modern materials and brushstrokes. The majority of her works are landscapes. In 1981 and 1983, Mok participated in the Contemporary Hong Kong Art Biennial Exhibition. Ink Wash Painting
Ink wash painting ( zh, t=水墨畫, s=水墨画, p=shuǐmòhuà; ja, 水墨画, translit=suiboku-ga or ja, 墨絵, translit=sumi-e; ko, 수묵화, translit=sumukhwa) is a type of Chinese ink brush painting which uses black ink, such as that used in Asian calligraphy, in different concentrations. It emerged during the Tang dynasty of China (618–907); it overturned earlier, more realistic techniques. It is typically monochrome, using only shades of black, with a great emphasis on virtuoso brushwork and conveying the perceived "spirit" or "essence" of a subject over direct imitation.
