Moirang
Moirang is a town in the Indian state of Manipur. It is situated approximately 45 km south of the state capital Imphal. It has an area of 269 km2 with a population of 62,187 in 67 villages. It is best known for the being the place of origin of the 7 epic cycles of incarnations of Meitei mythology and folklore. Colonel Shaukat Malik of the Indian National Army hoisted the Tricolour for the first time on Indian soil on 14 April 1944. Loktak Lake, the biggest fresh water lake in the North East Indian region and Keibul Lamjao National Park are situated in this district. There are 12 Gram Panchayats in this block. Thangjing
Thangching or Thangjing is a primordial deity in Meitei mythology and religion of Ancient Kangleipak (Antique Manipur). He is the ruling deity of the Moirang dynasty of Ancient Moirang. He rules supreme on the banks of the landlocked sea, Loktak lake. He is one of the four cardinal Umang Lais. The guardianship of the south western direction is alluded to Thangjing and the other directions to Koubru (north west), Marjing (north east) and Wangbren (south east). Two of his most prominent pantheons are the Thangching Temple and the Thangching Hill (Thangjing Peak). Origin God Thangjing is a deity of pre-Hindu origin. The Moirang Ningthourol Lambuba mentioned that Moirang was the amalgamation of different groups of people with different traditional beliefs. Khuman Khamba or Moirang Khamba is a hero in Meitei folklore. He belongs to the Khuman clan ( mni, Khuman Salai). Ibudhou Thangjing Temple
Ibudhou Thangjing Temple or Lord Thangjing Temple ( mni, ꯏꯕꯨꯙꯧ ꯊꯥꯡꯖꯤꯡ ꯂꯥꯏꯁꯪ) is a grand ancient temple dedicated to Lord Eputhou Thangjing ( mni, ꯏꯄꯨꯊꯧ ꯊꯥꯡꯖꯤꯡ), the ancient national deity of ancient kingdom of Moirang (present day Moirang city). Kao (bull)
Kao ( Meitei pronunciation: /káo/) is a legendary divine bull captured by Khuman Khamba in Meitei mythology and folklore of ancient Moirang realm. It appears in the legend of ''Kao Phaba'' ( omp, Kau Phaapa), also known as ''Khambana Kao Phaba'' ( omp, Khampana Kao Phaapa) of the Khamba Thoibi epic. Mythology Kongyamba, a rich nobleman of the Angom clan, met a group of women from the Khuman kingdom in a place called Moirang, and asked them why they were fishing there. They told him that a dangerous bull had killed many people near the water, so they could not fish. Kongyamba then tricked his servant Khamba into catching the bull, by pretending, before the king, that he was possessed by a divine spirit, and claimed that the god Thangjing spoke through him. INA Martyr's Memorial
The INA Martyrs' Memorial complex is a war memorial at Moirang, India, dedicated to the soldiers of the Indian National Army. The main feature of the complex is a reconstruction of the INA's memorial to its fallen soldiers as it stood in Singapore, before its demolition at the hands of British Indian Army sappers in 1945. The complex also contains a museum dedicated to the INA along with a library and an auditorium and a statue of Subhas Chandra Bose. Work on the cenotaph itself began in October 1968 and was completed in September 1969, when it was unveiled by Indira Gandhi. Work on expanding the monument complex to present-day size was completed in 2005, when it was unveiled. The total cost in building the memorial was Rs 6.23 crores. A stone monument has also been erected at the historic Moirang Kangla, where Colonel S. A. Malik leading an INA unit raised the flag of Azad Hind in April 1944. Shaukat Malik
Colonel Shaukat Ali Malik was an officer of the Indian National Army notable for having led a unit of the Bahadur Group in the capture of Moirang during the initial phases of the INA's Imphal Campaign during World War II. Moirang was the first territory within India to be captured by the INA and also the first place within the mainland of India to be held by the Azad Hind Government. Col. Malik Commander of the Intelligence (Bahadur) Group of INA, planted the Indian tricolor flag (with springing tiger) at the sacred place of Moirang Kangla on 14 April 1944 at about 5 pm, where he would also narrate the history of the Azad Hind Fauj.
