Mohammed Alkali
Senator Mohammed D. Alkali (born 17 January 1950) was elected Senator for the Jigawa North West constituency of Jigawa State, Nigeria at the start of the Nigerian Fourth Republic, running on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform. He served from 29 May 1999 until May 2003. Early life and career Alkali was born on 17 January 1950 at Gumel town, in Gumel local government area of Jigawa state. He was an Agricultural Instructor with the Northern Nigeria Ministry of Agriculture in Kano Province before going into private business. He worked at Messrs Umaru Na’Abba & Sons Limited, and later became chairman and managing director of Amasons International Limited. Jigawa State
Jigawa State (Hausa: ''Jihar Jigawa'' (Fula Leydi Jigawa 𞤤𞤫𞤴𞤮𞤤 𞤶𞤭𞤺𞤢𞤱𞤢) is one of the 36 states of Nigeria, located in the northern region of the country. Gumel
Gumel or Gumal (as the natives call it) is a city and traditional emirate in Jigawa State, Nigeria. Geography Gumel is located 120 km northeast of Kano, and lies about 20 km south of Nigeria's northern border with Niger. As of 2007 the estimated population of Gumel was 44,158. Gumel, also spelled Gummel, town and traditional emirate, northern Jigawa state, northern Nigeria. The emirate was founded about 1750 by Dan Juma of Kano city (75 miles 21 kmsouthwest) and his followers of the Manga (Mangawa) tribe. Shortly after his death in 1754, it became a tributary state of the Bornu kingdom. Sule Lamido was born on (30 August 1948) served as Foreign Affairs Minister of Nigeria from 1999 to 2003. He was elected governor of Jigawa State in April 2007.
