Lebanese People
The Lebanese people ( ar, الشعب اللبناني / ALA-LC: ', ) are the people inhabiting or originating from Lebanon. The term may also include those who had inhabited Mount Lebanon and the Anti-Lebanon Mountains prior to the creation of the modern Lebanese state. The major religious groups among the Lebanese people within Lebanon are Shia Muslims (27%), Sunni Muslims (27%), Maronite Christians (21%), Greek Orthodox Christians (8%), Melkite Christians (5%), Druze (5.2%), Protestant Christians (1%). The largest contingent of Lebanese, however, comprise a diaspora in North America, South America, Europe, Australia and Africa, which is predominantly Maronite Christian. As the relative proportion of the various sects is politically sensitive, Lebanon has not collected official census data on ethnic background since 1932 under the French Mandate. Al-Malkiyya
Al-Malikiyya ( ar, المالكية) was a Palestinian people, Palestinian village located in the Jabal Amil region. In a 1920s census, the village was registered as part of Greater Lebanon. It was later placed under the Mandatory Palestine, British Mandate of Palestine. Its population was mostly Metawali Shia Islam, Shiite. In a 1930s census, the village was registered as Mandatory Palestine, Palestinian and part of the Safed District. The village was depopulated as a result of the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. Mohammad Zgheib Military Base
Mohammad Zgheib military base ( Arabic: ثكنة محمد زغيب ''Thouknat Mohamed Zughaib''), named after First Lieutenant Mohamed Zughaib who was killed in the Battle of Malkia during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War., is the headquarters of the Lebanese Army South regional command located in Sidon, 43 km from Beirut. History The military base was founded in 1956, by the Lebanese army, in order to govern its forces distributed in the southern Lebanese region. Since 1948, ground forces such as the Second Artillery Regiment, the Sixth Brigade and an armored regiment, have positioned in its barracks till the mid-1970s. Later, the location where the present military base (in Sidon) was established, constituted of the Officers' club, Banu Barakat military base in Tyre (founded in 1958) and Marjayoun military base in Marjayoun (founded in the early 1940s). Lebanese Shia Muslims ( ar, المسلمون الشيعة اللبنانيين), historically known as ''matāwila'' ( ar, متاولة, plural of ''mutawālin'' ebanese pronounced as ''metouali'' refers to Lebanese people who are adherents of the Shia branch of Islam in Lebanon, which plays a major role along Lebanon's main Sunni, Maronite and Druze sects. Shia Islam in Lebanon has a history of more than a millennium. According to the ''CIA World Factbook'', Shia Muslims constituted an estimated 28% of Lebanon's population in 2018.
