Moffat
Moffat ( gd, Mofad) is a burgh and parish in Dumfriesshire, now part of the Dumfries and Galloway local authority area in Scotland. It lies on the River Annan, with a population of around 2,500. It was a centre of the wool trade and a spa town. Moffat is around to the southeast of Glasgow, southwest of Edinburgh, northeast of Dumfries and northwest of Carlisle. The Moffat House Hotel, located at the northern end of the High Street, was designed by John Adam. The nearby Star Hotel, a mere 20 ft (6 m) wide, was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the narrowest hotel in the world. Moffat won the Britain in Bloom contest in 1996. Moffat is home to Moffat toffee. The town is held to be the ancestral seat of Clan Moffat. The Devil's Beef Tub near Moffat was used by the members of Clan Moffat and later the members of Clan Johnstone to hoard cattle stolen in predatory raids. Moffatt, New Translation
Moffatt, New Translation (MNT) is an abbreviation of the title ''The Holy Bible Containing the Old and New Testaments, a New Translation'' by James Moffatt. Description In the introduction to his 1926 edition, Moffatt wrote, "The aim I have endeavoured to keep before my mind in making this translation has been to present the books of the Old and the New Testament in effective, intelligible English. No translation of an ancient classic can be quite intelligible, it is true, unless the reader is sufficiently acquainted with its environment to understand some of its flying allusions and characteristic metaphors. But something may be done and I am convinced, ought to be done at the present day to offer the unlearned a transcript of the Biblical literature as it lies in the light thrown upon it by modern research. The Bible is not always what it seems to those who read it in the great prose of the English version or indeed, in any of the conventional versions. What it is may be partly ...

Moffat Distribution
The Moffat distribution, named after the physicist Anthony Moffat, is a continuous probability distribution based upon the Lorentzian distribution. Its particular importance in astrophysics is due to its ability to accurately reconstruct point spread functions, whose wings cannot be accurately portrayed by either a Gaussian or Lorentzian function. Characterisation Probability density function The Moffat distribution can be described in two ways. Firstly as the distribution of a bivariate random variable (''X'',''Y'') centred at zero, and secondly as the distribution of the corresponding radii :R=\sqrt. In terms of the random vector (''X'',''Y''), the distribution has the probability density function (pdf) : f(x,y; \alpha,\beta)=\frac\left +\left(\frac\right)\right , \, where \alpha and \beta are seeing dependent parameters. In this form, the distribution is a reparameterisation of a bivariate Student distribution with zero correlation. In terms of the random variable ''R'', ...
