Moffat, Texas
Moffat is a small unincorporated community in Bell County, Texas, United States. It is part of the Killeen–Temple–Fort Hood Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The community was founded by Amelia Vancil and Chauncey Warren Moffet in February 1857 (the town was named after them but, at some point, misspelled). A store, built by William Elisha Pruett in the late 1860s, served as the main social focus for area residents for several years. The community has been referred to by several names: Moffattown, Moffatsville, Mount Green, and Gandertown; Moffat was chosen as the official name when a post office opened there in 1872. Texas State Highway 36
State Highway 36 (SH 36) runs from Freeport to Abilene. It was designated as the 36th Division Memorial Highway between Cameron and Sealy by the Texas Legislature in 1985. History SH 36 was originally proposed on November 21, 1917, as a route from Cisco to Waco. On December 20, 1917, this became part of SH 18. On November 20, 1917, an intercounty highway was designated from Goldthwaite to Temple. On January 24, 1918, the intercounty highway extended to Cameron. Bland, Texas
Bland is a ghost town in Bell County, in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located within the Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood metropolitan area. History John Atkerson founded the community when he opened a store here in the 1880s. He originally named it Pokerville because of how much he loved playing poker with his customers. A post office was established at Bland in 1894 and was named for local settler D.T. Bland. Its population was 20 in 1896. It grew to 63 in 1925 and returned to 20 in 1949 with only one operating business. It was then submerged into Lake Belton in the mid-1950s.
