The Union Council of Ministers Article 58 of the ''Constitution of India'' is the principal executive organ of the Government of India, which is responsible for being the senior decision making body of the executive branch. It is chaired by the prime minister and consists of the heads of each of the executive government ministries. Currently, the council is headed by prime minister Narendra Modi and consists of 29 members, including the prime minister. The council is subject to the Parliament of India. The First Ministry of Narendra Modi is the Council of Ministers headed by Narendra Modi that was formed after the 2014 general election which was held in nine phases from 7 April to 12 May in 2014. The results of the election were announced on 16 May 2014 and this led to the formation of the 16th Lok Sabha. The Council assumed office from 27 May 2014. The Council of Ministers included 10 female ministers, of whom 6 held the rank of Cabinet minister. This is the highest number of female Cabinet ministers in any Indian government in history. The Gujarat Council of Ministers ( gu, ગુજરાતનું મંત્રીમંડળ) exercises executive authority of the Indian State of Gujarat. The council is chaired by the Chief Minister of Gujarat. The council serves as the highest decision-making body in the State of Gujarat and advises the Governor of Gujarat in the exercise of his or her functions. The Council of Ministers is responsible to the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. Constitutional Provisions Article 163 of the Constitution of India makes provision for the State Governments of the Republic of India to have a Council of Ministers, headed by a Chief Minister, so as to aid and assist that state's Governor in the exercise of his or her functions. While the Governor is the executive Head of the State, actual executive power can only be exercised after a consensus is reached by the Council of Ministers.
