Modern Pentathlon At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's
The men's modern pentathlon at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing was held on Thursday, August 21. Three venues were used: Olympic Green Convention Center (shooting and fencing), Ying Tung Natatorium (swimming), and the Olympic Sports Center Stadium (horse-riding and running). The Russians and Lithuanians continued to dominate the men's competition for the third consecutive time. Russia's Andrey Moiseev won the gold medal, and successfully defended his Olympic title, with score of 5,632 points. Moiseev also became the second modern pentathlete to win two individual gold medals since Lars Hall of Sweden in 1952 and in 1956. Meanwhile, Lithuania's Edvinas Krungolcas and Andrejus Zadneprovskis anchored the two-medal sweep in the podium, taking the silver and bronze, respectively. The China National Convention Center, previously known as the Olympic Green Convention Center () is a convention center located in the Olympic Green in Beijing. Marcin Horbacz
Marcin Horbacz (born June 16, 1974 in Koszalin) is a Polish modern pentathlete. He is also a two-time champion at the 2007 and 2009 World Cup circuit, and is currently ranked no. 106 in the world by the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM). Horbacz first competed for the men's modern pentathlon at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. He displayed a strong performance in the early rounds of the competition, including his sixth place-finish in one-touch épée fencing. He was second overall at the start of the show jumping segment, but dropped to last when his horse stubbornly refused to jump the last obstacle. Following a discontinuous jump, Horbacz finished last out of thirty-two competitors in the overall event, with a score of 4,388 points. Dzmitry Meliakh ( be, Дзмітрый Мелях; born July 2, 1979, in Minsk) is a three-time Olympic modern pentathlete from Belarus. He first competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, and achieved his best result in the men's event, with a score of 5,340 points, finishing in fifth place. Samuel "Sammy" Weale (born 9 February 1982) is a British modern pentathlon, modern pentathlete who has competed at the Olympic Games. Weale competed for Great Britain at the 2008 Summer Olympics, in Beijing, China, and finished 10th in the Modern pentathlon at the 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's, men's modern pentathlon.
