Jesus Abreu (pentathlete)
Jesus Gil Abreu (September 1, 1823 – June 30, 1900) was an American rancher and pioneer who owned a New Mexico ranch that now comprises Philmont Scout Ranch. Early years He was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His father was on the staff of New Mexico Governor Albino Pérez and was killed along with the governor during the Revolt of 1837 (New Mexico). After the revolt, he headed east on the Santa Fe Trail where he worked for Kansas City, Missouri founder John Calvin McCoy at Westport, Kansas City and Independence, Missouri. Mexican–American War During the Mexican–American War in 1845, he was engaged by a sutler to be an interpreter for the United States Army. Rita Sanz-Agero (born November 8, 1991, in Guatemala City) is a female modern pentathlete from Guatemala. At age sixteen, Sanz-Agero became the youngest modern pentathlete to compete at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where she finished thirty-fourth in the women's event, with a score of 4,844 points. Sanz-Agero is also the daughter of María Isabel Sanz; the granddaughter of Rita de Luna Rita de Luna (born 1 September 1929) is a Guatemalan equestrian. Kara Grant
Kara Grant (born January 9, 1979) is a two-time Olympic modern pentathlete from Canada. She is one of the first female Canadian modern pentathletes, along with Monica Pinette, to compete at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. Born and raised in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Grant started out her sporting career in modern pentathlon at the age of sixteen. Although she joined in a local fencing club, Grant was intrigued by the challenge and variety of five different sporting disciplines (shooting, fencing, swimming, horse-riding, and running), which ultimately made her decision to try and accomplish the sport. In 1999, Grant received a qualifying berth for the Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she took home the bronze medal for her national team. Michelle Kelly (pentathlon)
Michelle "Mickey" Kelly (born c. 1978) is an American pentathlete who won bronze medals at the 2005 Pan American Championships, 2007 Pan American Games, and Gold at the 2018 Masters World Championship in Halle, Germany. Kelly is the daughter of Michael and Betsy Kelly. She has six brothers (Jamie, Chris, Casey, Josh, Al and Zilla) and three sisters (Sara, Emilie and Jessinia). In 1996 she graduated from Chatham High School in Chatham, New York, where she trained in cross-country running, basketball and American football, as the only girl on the boys football team. In 2000, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in teaching from Cortland College. There she took running and swimming and was named the Cortland College Athlete of the Year in 2000. Monica Pinette
Monica Pinette (born February 5, 1977) is a two-time Olympic modern pentathlete from Canada. She is one of the first female Canadian modern pentathletes, and the only indigenous athlete of (Métis) to compete at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. Her 13th-place finish overall at the 2004 Summer Olympics was Canada's best recorded performance in the modern pentathlon to date. Early life and career Pinette was born in the city of Vancouver and grew up in Langley, British Columbia. Pinette began her sporting career as a member of the Pony Club in Vancouver. She took up the pentathlon at age 21. She has participated in modern pentathlon at different local clubs for swimming, shooting, fencing, and horse-riding. Yane Márcia Campos da Fonseca Marques (born January 7, 1984 in Afogados da Ingazeira) is a modern pentathlon athlete from Brazil. She became nationally known despite the obscurity of her sport in the country after winning a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, the first Latin American to medal and the only woman to do so. Biography Hailing from the Sertão of the Brazilian state of Pernambuco, Marques moved to the state capital Recife at the age of 11 so her older siblings could attend college. One year later, she became a swimmer for Clube Náutico Capibaribe, where she competed alongside future Olympian Joanna Maranhão. Armando Acosta (pentathlete)
Saint Vitus is an American doom metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1979. They are considered to be one of the first doom metal bands, and have been labeled as one of the "big four" of that genre, along with Candlemass, Pentagram and Trouble. Having released nine studio albums to date, Saint Vitus never achieved a popular breakthrough, but have exerted great influence on the development of doom metal, sludge metal, and stoner rock. The original line-up consisted of Dave Chandler (guitar), Mark Adams (bass), Armando Acosta (drums) and Scott Reagers (vocals). They recorded their first two albums before Scott Weinrich replaced Reagers in 1986. The line-up of Chandler, Adams, Acosta and Weinrich is the longest-lasting.
