Modern Pentathlon At The 1984 Summer Olympics
The modern pentathlon at the 1984 Summer Olympics was represented by two events: ''Individual competition'' and ''Team competition''. As it was usual in Olympic modern pentathlon until 1992, a single competition was held to determine both the individual and the team (country) ranking. In particular, the sum of each competitor's individual score from the same country determined the ''Team competition'' event result. The competition consisted of 5 disciplines: *''Equestrian'', held on July 29. *''Fencing'', held on July 30. *''Swimming'', held on July 31. *''Shooting'', held on August 1. *''Cross-country'', also held on August 1. Four out of the five events took place at the Coto Equestrian Center in Coto de Caza, California, while the swimming portion was held at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in nearby Irvine, California. The modern pentathlon at the 1980 Summer Olympics was represented by two events (both for men): ''Individual competition'' and ''Team competition''. As usual in Olympic modern pentathlon one competition was held and each competitor's score was included to the ''Individual competition'' event results table and was also added to his teammates' scores to be included to the ''Team competition'' event results table. Joël Bouzou
Joël Bouzou (born 30 October 1955) is a former French athlete and World Champion of modern pentathlon in 1987. Bouzou is the President of the World Olympians Association. Biography Sports career Bouzou grew up in Auch, in a sporting family. His father was a PE teacher and Joël participated in many different sports, so that he naturally discovered Modern Pentathlon. He participated in four Olympic Games (Moscow 1980, Los Angeles 1984, Seoul 1988, Barcelona 1992) and won the team bronze medal in 1984. He won the Modern Pentathlon World Championships in 1987, beating Milan Kadlec. He is currently Vice-President of the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne. A member of the Executive Committee for the World Olympians Association (WOA) from 2003 to 2008, Bouzou also founded a French association Rassemblement par le Sport (Together through Sport) with the aim of helping to socially integrate young people living in volatile suburbs in France through sport.
