Modern Pentathlon At The 1968 Summer Olympics – Men's Individual
The men's individual modern pentathlon event was a multi-sport combined event at the 1968 Summer Olympics. It was the 12th consecutive Games at which the event was held after being introduced in 1912. The competition involved riding, fencing, shooting, swimming, and running. The scores from the individual competition were also used for the Modern pentathlon at the 1968 Summer Olympics – Men's team, team competition. The event resulted in the first Olympic competitor being disqualified for doping. Hans-Gunnar Liljenwall was disqualified for alcohol use after drinking beer before the shooting phase. Results Hans Todt drew a stubborn horse for the riding element, which balked three times at an obstacle, resulting in Todt scoring 0 points. Todt, disconsolate at seeing his years of training gone to waste because of bad luck, attacked the horse and had to be pulled away by his teammates. Hans Jacobson
Hans Jacobson (March 17, 1947 – July 9, 1984) was a Swedish modern pentathlete, fencer and Olympic Champion. He competed at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, where he won a gold medal in épée with the Swedish team. He originally won a bronze medal in the modern pentathlon team competition at the 1968 Summer Olympics along with Björn Ferm and Hans-Gunnar Liljenvall. However, he was stripped of the medal after Liljenvall failed a drug test (for alcohol). Jim Fox (pentathlete)
Jeremy Robert "Jim" Fox OBE (born 19 September 1941) is a British modern pentathlete and Olympic champion. Career Fox is one of the most influential figures in the development of the Modern Pentathlon in Britain. He won the British title a record ten times and is the only British pentathlete to have competed in four Olympic Games. His fourth place in the individual event at Munich in 1972 was the best placing by a Briton up to that time. It was only subsequently matched by Richard Phelps in 1984, and surpassed in 2021 by Joe Choong who won gold in Tokyo. Fox made his Olympic début in 1964, when he placed 29th in the individual event, and in his second Olympic appearance in 1968 he improved to finish eighth.
