Personal life MacDougall was commissioned as an officer in the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry in 1932, and was seconded to the Royal Air Force as a flying officer on probation four years later. With the outbreak of the Second World War, MacDougall was promoted to flight lieutenant Flight lieutenant is a junior commissioned rank in air forces that use the Royal Air Force (RAF) system of ranks, especially in Commonwealth countries. It has a NATO rank code of OF-2. Flight lieutenant is abbreviated as Flt Lt in the India .... He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1940, for attacking a German airfield with "courage and determination". He flew 22 missions before dying on active service in December 1942.
