Modderfontein Stadium
Modderfontein Stadium is a multi-use stadium situated in Modderfontein, which is a part of the Johannesburg Municipality, in the Gauteng province in South Africa. Currently, it is mostly used to host football matches. Football related tenants *In recent years, until 2009, the stadium was used as headquarters and training ground by Platinum Stars F.C. Playing first in the National First Division and later in Premier Soccer League, the club however preferred to use some much bigger stadiums, as home venue for their professional league matches. Modderfontein (East Rand)
Modderfontein is a small town on the East Rand of Gauteng, South Africa. It began as a mining town adjacent to the Mud River, hence its name which is Afrikaans for Mud spring or fountain. It is located in the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, adjacent to Kempton Park in the neighbouring City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. Highlands Park Football Club was a South African professional soccer club who played in Modderfontein, Johannesburg. They were founded in 2003 as a phoenix club to the earlier Highlands Park F.C. (1959) and Highlands Park F.C. (1990) The club started out in the fourth tier of the South African Football league, known as SAFA Regional League, and got promoted in 2007 to compete in the third tier, known as Vodacom League. The National First Division (NFD), officially known as the Motsepe Foundation Championship for sponsorship reasons, is the second-highest league of South African club association football, football after the South African Premier Division. The Peter Mokaba Stadium is a football and rugby union stadium in Polokwane (formerly Pietersburg), South Africa, that was used for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. It has a capacity of 45,500 but for the purposes of the 2010 FIFA World Cup the seating capacity was reduced to 41,733. It is named after Peter Mokaba, a former leader of the ANC Youth League.
