Mod4Win is a media player (application software), media player for module files written by Kay Bruns. It is skin (computing), skinnable, multi-format freeware. It was one of the first Mod players for the Windows platform. Mod4Win was first released by Kay Bruns in 1993. Development was suspended in May 1999. History The first fully functional model of MOD4WIN was released in September 1993 and it was a pre-release. The first shareware release was done on November 28, 1993. The first commercial version was released on January 14, 1994. The developer released the final beta, version 2.40, as an unrestricted application after development was suspended. Module File
Module file (MOD music, tracker music) is a family of music file formats originating from the MOD file format on Amiga systems used in the late 1980s. Those who produce these files (using the software called music trackers) and listen to them form the worldwide MOD scene, a part of the demoscene subculture. The mass interchange of "MOD music" or "tracker music" (music stored in module files created with trackers) evolved from early FIDO networks. Many websites host large numbers of these files, the most comprehensive of them being the Mod Archive. Nowadays, most module files, including ones in compressed form, are supported by most popular media players such as VLC, Foobar2000, Exaile and many others (mainly due to inclusion of common playback libraries such as libmodplug for gstreamer). Streaming media is multimedia that is delivered and consumed in a continuous manner from a source, with little or no intermediate storage in network elements. ZIP (file Format)
ZIP is an archive file format that supports lossless data compression. A ZIP file may contain one or more files or directories that may have been compressed. The ZIP file format permits a number of compression algorithms, though DEFLATE is the most common. This format was originally created in 1989 and was first implemented in PKWARE, Inc.'s PKZIP utility, as a replacement for the previous ARC compression format by Thom Henderson. The ZIP format was then quickly supported by many software utilities other than PKZIP. Microsoft has included built-in ZIP support (under the name "compressed folders") in versions of Microsoft Windows since 1998 via the "Windows Plus!" addon for Windows 98. PKZIP
PKZIP is a file archiving computer program, notable for introducing the popular ZIP file format. PKZIP was first introduced for MS-DOS on the IBM-PC compatible platform in 1989. Since then versions have been released for a number of other architectures and operating systems. PKZIP was originally written by Phil Katz and marketed by his company PKWARE, Inc starting in 1986. LHARC
LHA or LZH is a freeware compression utility and associated file format. It was created in 1988 by , a doctor and originally named LHarc. A complete rewrite of LHarc, tentatively named ''LHx'', was eventually released as ''LH''. It was then renamed to ''LHA'' to avoid conflicting with the then-new MS-DOS 5.0 ("load high") command. The original LHA and its Windows port, LHA32, are no longer in development because Yoshizaki is busy at work. Although no longer much used in the west, LHA remained popular in Japan until the 2000s. It was used by id Software to compress installation files for their earlier games, including ''Doom'' and '' Quake''. Protracker
ProTracker is a music tracker for the Amiga platform. A free software tool that required no additional equipment, it became popular in the early 1990s with both amateurs and professionals, allowing for sample-based music in the MOD file format. Introduction ''ProTracker'' allows the user to create sequences of notes called "patterns", which are chained together to form a complete song. Music created in ProTracker uses the MOD file format. It was initially developed for the Amiga line of computers, but was later made available for other platforms such as the Atari ST.
