''Moby'' (titled ''The Story So Far'' in the UK) is the debut studio album by American electronica musician Moby, released in July 1992 by record label Instinct. Content The song listed as "Go" on the American and German editions is in fact an shortened version of the " Woodtick Mix". "Thousand", a song only included on the German edition of the album, was listed in ''Guinness World Records'' for having the fastest beats-per-minute (BPM) tempo, clocking in at over 1,000 BPM, hence its name. Release ''Moby'' was released by the New York-based independent label Instinct Records on July 27, 1992. In an interview with '' Billboard'' at the time of the album's release, Moby stated that "all the songs are at least a year old. He has sold 20 million records worldwide. AllMusic considers him to be "among the most important dance music figures of the early 1990s, helping bring dance music to a mainstream audience both in the United States and the United Kingdom". ''Ambient'' is the second studio album by American electronica musician Moby, released in August 1993 by record label Instinct. Composition The album is composed of electronic ambient pieces, similar to Aphex Twin's '' Selected Ambient Works'' releases. Like the Aphex Twin releases, the work is mainly instrumental (although there are samples of the sound of a choir vocalizing on "Tongues", and a woman saying 'bad days' in the background of "Bad Days"). Many of the tracks are beat-driven, except "J Breas" and "Piano and String", which both use pianos and synthesizers. "Bad Days" uses a 'sweeping' synth effect, and "Sound" is a high pitched loop playing and fading out and in. "80" uses synths mimicking an acoustic guitar. The album has an experimental, moody style. Many of the tracks (including "Bad Days" and "Lean on Me") are dark and unearthly. It was first released on 28 September 1992 by XL Recordings in the United Kingdom and by Elektra Records in the United States. Album information Apart from Liam Howlett - who was the sole composer - of the additional three members at that time, only Maxim Reality actually contributed to the album, performing the vocals on the last track. A wide variety of artists in the breakbeat hardcore scene in the early 1990s are given respect and namechecked in the sleeve notes of the album, including SL2, Carl Cox, Moby, Tim Westwood, Orbital and Aphex Twin. The Prodigy
The Prodigy are an English electronic dance music band formed in Braintree, Essex, in 1990 by producer, keyboard player and songwriter Liam Howlett. The original line-up also featured dancer and singer Keith Flint and dancer and occasional live keyboard player Leeroy Thornhill, dancer Sharky and MC and vocalist Maxim. They were pioneers of the breakbeat-influenced genre big beat, and achieved mainstream popularity in the 1990s. Howlett's rock-inspired drum rhythms infused with electronic rave music beats/breaks were combined with Maxim's omnipresent mystique, Thornhill's shuffle dancing style, and Flint's later modern punk appearance. The ''Spin Alternative Record Guide'' is a music reference book compiled by the American music magazine '' Spin'' and published in 1995 by Vintage Books. It was edited by rock critic Eric Weisbard and Craig Marks, who was the magazine's editor-in-chief at the time. The book features essays and reviews from a number of prominent critics on albums, artists, and genres considered relevant to the alternative music movement.
