Mizo Music
Mizoram is a region in India. Its folk music consists of vocals (singing) accompanied by traditional drums, gong and other native percussion instruments. There is also a long history of flute-playing which is now defunct. The drums are made from a hollow tree trunk with membrane made from cow hide and the gongs, made of brass, are very similar to those found in Myanmar. History It is difficult to trace the origin and to arrange the chronological sequences of the heritage of Mizo Music. However, some couplets were developed during the settlement of Thantlang in Burma, estimated between 1300-1400 AD. As recorded by B. Mizoram
Mizoram () is a state in Northeast India, with Aizawl as its seat of government and capital city. The name of the state is derived from "Mizo people, Mizo", the endonym, self-described name of the native inhabitants, and "Ram", which in the Mizo language means "land." Thus "Mizo-ram" means "land of the Mizos". Within India's northeast region, it is the southernmost landlocked state, sharing borders with three of the Seven Sister States, namely Tripura, Assam and Manipur. The state also shares a border with the neighbouring countries of Bangladesh and Myanmar. Like several other northeastern states of India, Mizoram was previously part of Assam until 1972, when it was carved out as a Union Territory. In 1986 the Indian Parliament adopted the 53rd amendment of the Indian Constitution, which allowed for the creation of the State of Mizoram on 20 February 1987, as India's 23rd state. Michael M Sailo
Michael Malsawmzela Sailo (16 November 1979 – 7 April 2017), also known as Ace Man, was a rap singer from Mizoram, India. He introduced rap music in Mizoram. Early life Michael Malsawmzela Sailo was born to Lalsanga Sailo and Nunthari Sailo in Aizawl. He first studied in Pune. He joined Spicer Adventist University where he won medals at singing competitions. Career At university he met an African group that inspired him to take up rap music. Joining the group, he toured South Indian cities such as Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. He opened for various groups including VIVA. Returning to Mizoram, he brought along the rap music for which he received awards: He was a RJ for Red FM and FM Zoawi in Mizoram. He owned a music studio called Spaceville Pro Sessions. Mami Varte
Lalrinkimi Varte (born 19 April 1988), better known by her stage name Mami Varte, is a Mizo singer most notable in Northeast India. Music career Mami Varte began singing at the age of 12, where she performed in various programs at church and school during her childhood. She released her debut album ''Damlai Par'' in 2007.
