Mixed 4 × 400 Metres Relay
The mixed 4 × 400 metres relay is a 4 × 400 metres relay in which teams field two men and two women, in whatever order they choose. It was introduced at the 2017 IAAF World Relays and was then held at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Qatar. Background Part of the rationale for the event is that should teams put their men and women in different orders, there will be excitement in seeing large leads being reversed when men and women are running against each other. All the teams in the finals at the 2017 IAAF World Relays ran man-woman-woman-man. Taylor Manson (born September 29, 1999) is an American athlete who competes primarily in the 400m. From East Lansing, Michigan, she studied at East Lansing High School and at the University of Florida. Lynna Irby (born December 6, 1998) is an American track and field sprinter who competes in the 100m, 200m, and 400m dash events. At the 400m dash, she set an all-time world record at the age of 12 running 54.57 before becoming the fastest American 400m high school runner in the last 20 years. Elija Godwin (born July 1, 1999) is an American athlete who specialises in the 400 metres. Career Early career From Covington, Georgia and a student at the University of Georgia. Initially, Godwin only ran on the track to condition himself for football. Then, once he began to train more seriously he would run mostly 100m and 200m. This was until his coach Kevin Barnes looking at his split times and suggested he run an open 400m race. Godwin ran 47.40 for the 400m at his first race. Trevor Stewart (born May 20, 1997) is an American Olympic athlete. He won a gold medal in the men's 4x400 metres relay and a bronze medal in the mixed 4x400 metres relay at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
