Kanji

is a Japanese film director, screenwriter, and actor. He is one of the group of prominent '' pink film'' directors known collectively as the which comprises Meike, Toshiya Ueno, Yūji Tajiri, Shinji Imaoka, Yoshitaka Kamata, Toshirō Enomoto and Rei Sakamoto. Life and career Mitsuru Meike's introduction to the film industry was as assistant director to prominent female ''pink film'' director Sachi Hamano. Mitsuru Yoshida (吉田 満 ''Yoshida Mitsuru'' January 6, 1923 – September 17, 1979) was a Japanese author and naval officer. He was born in Tokyo. He was a survivor of the battleship ''Yamato'' when it was sunk on 7 April 1945 during Operation Ten-Go, an attempt to support the defenders of Okinawa. His best-known work is ''Senkan Yamato-no Saigo'' ( 戦艦大和ノ最期, Requiem for Battleship Yamato), based on his personal experiences as a junior officer on ''Yamatos final voyage. Mitsuru Ushijima
was a Japanese general who served during the Second Sino-Japanese War and World War II. He was the commanding general of the 32nd Army, which fought in the Battle of Okinawa during the final stages of the war. Ushijima's troops were defeated, and at the end of the battle he committed suicide. Biography Early career Ushijima was born in Kagoshima city, where his father had been a samurai in the service of Satsuma Domain and later a career officer in the early Imperial Japanese Army. He was the fourth son, and one of his elder brothers served as governor of Ibaraki Prefecture. The family relocated to Tokyo, but when his father died shortly after Ushijima was born, his mother moved the family back to Kagoshima.
