Mitafest
Mitafest is the inter-college cultural festival of Madras Institute of Technology. The festival is held during the month of January or February every year. It is claimed to be the oldest inter-college festival in Chennai. Mitafest is the oldest and biggest annual cultural festival of Chennai in existence today. It is the flagship event of MIT and an event of grandeur and extravaganza, drawing footfalls of more than 20,000 students from 100+ colleges for participating in 50+ events across the span of 3 days. It has thrived for more than 40 years and has blended along as the pride of the institute. Gana Bala
Bala Murugan, better known by his stage name Gana Bala is an Indian playback singer in Tamil cinema. He rose to prominence after rendering the songs 'Aadi Pona Aavani' and 'Nadukadalula Kappala' from the soundtrack of ''Attakathi''. He has predominantly sung songs belonging to the gaana genre of Tamil Nadu. He has been credited for reviving the gaana genre in Tamil Cinema after 'Thenisai Thendral' Deva. He has also penned lyrics for some of his songs. Career Bala first tripped on 'Gaana' when he was in high school. Shakthisree Gopalan
Shakthisree Gopalan (born 9 October 1988) is an Indian vocalist, songwriter and performer, famous for her collaborations with the top south-Indian music composers like A.R. Rahman. Aside from the film music, she is a regular in the independent music scene, performing with various bands over the years dabbling in Pop, R'n'B, trip-hop and jazz. She has also been performing and releasing music independently in multiple languages. She is an architect by profession, graduating from School of Architecture and Planning. Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) is an engineering institute located in Chromepet, Chennai, India. It is one of the four autonomous constituent colleges of Anna University. It was established in 1949 by Chinnaswami Rajam as the first self-financing engineering institute in the country and later merged with Anna University. Five Star (also styled as 5 Star) are a British pop group, formed in 1983 and comprising siblings Stedman, Lorraine, Denise, Doris and Delroy Pearson. Saarang
Saarang (means 'Chital' or Spotted Deer in Sanskrit, a common sight on IIT Madras campus) is the annual social and cultural festival of IIT Madras. It is a 5 day long festival usually in the second week of the year. Founded in 1974, Saarang is the second oldest college festival in India. It was started in the name of 'Mardi Gras' with a small number of quizzes and music events. It adopted the name 'Saarang' and grew with the help of corporate sponsorship, collaboration with large-scale event organizers and international artists. Saarang is a not-for-profit, entirely student-run, ISO 9001:2015 organization. "Mood Indigo" is a jazz song with music by Duke Ellington and Barney Bigard and lyrics by Irving Mills. Composition Although Irving Mills—Jack Mills's brother and publishing partner—took credit for the lyrics, Mitchell Parish claimed in a 1987 interview that he had written the lyrics. The tune was composed for a radio broadcast in October 1930 and was originally titled "Dreamy Blues". It was "the first tune I ever wrote specially for microphone transmission", Ellington recalled. "The next day wads of mail came in raving about the new tune, so Irving Mills put a lyric to it." Renamed "Mood Indigo", it became a jazz standard." Pragathi Guruprasad is a Singaporean-American playback singer who has worked in Tamil language films. Brought up in Fremont, California, she finished as a runner-up in the third season of the reality-based singing competition ''Airtel Super Singer Junior'' in 2012. Anuradha Sriram (born 9 July 1970) is an Indian carnatic and playback singer and child actress who hails from the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Krish is an Indian actor and singer who has worked on Tamil and Telugu films. He was introduced to the Tamil Cinema as a playback singer by the successful duos Gautham Vasudev Menon and Harris Jayaraj in ''Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu'' for the song "Manjal Veyyil".
