Missouri Route 152
Route 152 is a state highway in the northern Kansas City metropolitan area. It begins at Interstate 435 south of the Kansas City International Airport and ends at Route 291 in Liberty. The route is a limited access highway between its two junctions with I-435. It crosses I-29 south of the airport in Platte County and US 169 in Clay County. The original route, established in 1827, was called "Military Road" and connected the Liberty Arsenal with Fort Leavenworth. In the North Kansas City area, Military Road was renamed Barry Road in 1829 after the newly established town of Barry, which in turn is named after the postmaster-general William Taylor Barry. The road remained comarked Highway 152. A short extension of Barry Road, identified as Highway 152, was created between 1980 and 1982. Proper construction of Highway 152 did not continue until 1990. Liberty Arsenal
The Liberty Arsenal, known by Federal authorities as the Missouri Depot was a United States Army arsenal at Liberty, Missouri in Clay County, Missouri. The depot was seized twice by Southern partisans, once during the Kansas troubles in 1855, and again shortly after the outbreak of the American Civil War. It was located generally west of the junction of Missouri Route 291 and old 210 Highway. Construction of the arsenal On July 2, 1836, President Andrew Jackson signed a bill authorizing construction of an arsenal on the western frontier of Missouri, and on June 30, 1837, the Federal government obtained a deed to ten acres of land near Liberty. William Taylor Barry (February 5, 1784 – August 30, 1835) was an American slave owner, statesman and jurist. He served as Postmaster General for most of the administration of President Andrew Jackson and was the only Cabinet member not to resign in 1831 as a result of the Petticoat affair. Barry, often referred to as "The Town of Barry" was a city centered at the intersection of Barry Road and Old Stagecoach Road in northern Kansas City, Clay County, Missouri. It was founded in 1829 and named after the Postmaster General William Taylor Barry.
