Mississippi Highway 76
Mississippi Highway 76 (MS 76) is an east-west state highway in Itawamba County, Mississippi. It is a section of Mississippi's portion of Corridor V of the Appalachian Development Highway System. It branches off northeast from MS 25 northeast of Fulton and passes through the northeast quadrant of rural Itawamba County before connecting with Alabama's SR 24 section at the state line, just barely outside the city limits of Red Bay, Alabama. MS 76 was proposed as a four-lane connection for SR 24 (and all of northeast Alabama) to Fulton, Tupelo, and I-22. Before April 11, 2023, it only extended from the state line to MS 23. The remaining stretch from MS 23 to MS 25 opened on that day, and was the final segment on Corridor V to open, making the trip between I-55 in Batesville to I-24 west of Chattanooga, Tennessee entirely a four-lane divided highway. WTVA (channel 9) is a television station licensed to Tupelo, Mississippi, United States, serving the Columbus–Tupelo market as an affiliate of NBC and ABC. MS 15 is divided into two sections due to a large gap between Stone County and Perry County. Mississippi Highway 9 (MS 9) in the Appalachian Foothills (aka North Central Hills) region of northeastern Mississippi, running north–south from MS 30 east of New Albany to MS 12 in Ackerman. Mississippi Highway 6 (MS 6) runs east–west from MS 161 in Lyon, east to MS 25 near Amory. It travels approximately , serving Coahoma, Quitman, Panola, Lafayette, Pontotoc, Lee, and Monroe Counties. Pontotoc, Mississippi
Pontotoc is a city in, and the county seat of, Pontotoc County, Mississippi, located to the west of the much larger city of Tupelo. The population was 5,625 at the 2010 census. Pontotoc is a Chickasaw word that means, “Land of the Hanging Grapes.” History Pontotoc is a Chickasaw word meaning "Land of Hanging Grapes". The Chickasaw nation occupied this area long before Europeans colonized the Southeast, the last in a succession of indigenous peoples who had this territory for thousands of years. Alabama State Route 24
State Route 24 (SR 24) is a state highway in the northwestern and north-central part of the state. The western terminus of the route is near Red Bay at the Mississippi state line, where it continues as Mississippi Highway 76 (MS 76). The eastern terminus of the route is near the junction with SR 67 at Decatur, where it continues for 2 miles as Moulton Street. Moulton Street (without SR 24) ends east of US 31.
