Mississippi Highway 504
Mississippi Highway 504 (MS 504) is a state highway in central Mississippi. The route starts at MS 15 south of Newton and travels southeastward. The road turns east at a county road near Garlandville and travels to its eastern terminus at MS 503 in the unincorporated area of Hero. The route was designated around 1956, from MS 15 to MS 503, and has not changed significantly since. Route description The route is located in southern Newton and northern Jasper counties. In 2017, the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) calculated as many as 670 vehicles traveling on MS 504 east of County Road 5044 (CO 5044), and as few as 650 vehicles traveling southeast of Boutwell Road. This is expressed in terms of annual average daily traffic (AADT), a measure of traffic volume for any average day of the year. Union is a town in Neshoba and Newton counties, Mississippi. The population was 1,988 at the 2010 census. Geography Union is located at (32.571320, -89.118118). Most of the town is in Newton County with a portion extending north into adjacent Neshoba County. In the 2000 census, 1,496 of the town's 2,021 residents (74.0%) lived in Newton County and 525 (26.0%) in Neshoba County. Sealcoating, or pavement sealing, is the process of applying a protective coating to asphalt-based pavements to provide a layer of protection from the elements: water, oils, and U.V. damage. Mississippi Highway 513 (MS 513) is a state highway running between Quitman and Rose Hill. Established in 1950, it is signed as a north–south highway, though it generally runs from east to west. Route description The state highway begins at an intersection with MS 145 in the northern reaches of Quitman, Clarke County. MS 513 heads northwest, briefly passing through a residential neighborhood, before heading through a mostly wooded rural area. The highway provides access to Clarke County Airport northwest of Quitman. It briefly curves to the west, then to the north as MS 513 enters the town of Stonewall.
