Mississauga MetroStars
Mississauga MetroStars (briefly known as MetroStars Canada in 2019) were a professional indoor soccer team which played its home games at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The team joined the Major Arena Soccer League for the 2018–19 season. The club featured former Toronto FC players Dwayne De Rosario, Molham Babouli and Adrian Cann on the roster in its first season. Just as the 2019–20 season began, it was announced the team would cease operations. History Background Historically the Canadian professional indoor soccer landscape consisted of Canadian franchises in American leagues particularly in the North American Soccer League (NASL) and the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL). Paramount Fine Foods Centre
The Paramount Fine Foods Centre, formerly the Hershey Centre, is a multi-purpose sports and entertainment complex located in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Its current name was adopted on July 1, 2018, following a new naming rights agreement with Mississauga-based restaurant chain Paramount Fine Foods. History First opened in 1998 as the Hershey Centre, the complex is located on Rose Cherry Place, which was named after the late wife of Don Cherry, founder and former owner of the Mississauga IceDogs hockey team. The closest major intersection is Kennedy Road and Matheson Boulevard East. In 2007, a new multi-sport facility called SportZone opened just to the north of the main bowl. It houses a full-size indoor soccer field, a full size FIBA basketball court, a gymnastics facility, and two outdoor soccer fields. Toronto Shooting Stars
Toronto Shooting Stars were an indoor soccer team based in Toronto, Ontario that competed in the defunct NPSL. The team began play in the 1996-1997 season, with home games taking place at Maple Leaf Gardens. However, the ownership of the franchise collapsed just 3 games into its first season, forcing the league to take control of the team's operations for the remainder of the season. After losses of nearly $1 million, the team suspended operations for the 1997-1998 season. It was reported that the owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs held negotiations to purchase the team, but it never returned to play. Vasyl Zhuk
Vasyl Zhuk (born January 1, 1991) is a Ukrainian footballer who plays as a midfielder. Playing career Zhuk began at the youth level in 2008 with BRV-VIK in Volodymyr. Shortly after he joined the professional ranks with FC Volyn Lutsk in the Ukrainian First League. He assisted Volyn in securing promotion to the Ukrainian Premier League in the 2009-10 season and made an appearance in 2011. Anthony Osorio
Anthony Osorio (born April 13, 1994) is a Canadian professional soccer player who last played as a defender and midfielder for the Mississauga MetroStars in the Major Arena Soccer League. Club career Osorio attended St. Edmund Campion where he represented the school team, having grown up in Brampton, Ontario. He was part of the team that won the school's second and third Ontario Federation of Schools Athletic Association Championship in four years. David Velastegui (born April 1, 1991) is a Canadian professional soccer player. Club career Velastegui signed with Brampton United in the Canadian Soccer League (CSL), he was a regular starter playing in all 23 match fixtures and being recognized as one of the top young talents of the league. David spent four years at Sheridan College, where he captained the team to win its first ever Canadian National Championship and received the CCAA All-Canadian award, being recognized as the top player in the country. Shawn Brown (born February 27, 1987) is a Jamaican-born former soccer player who played as a midfielder and defender. Career Early career Brown began playing with the Toronto-based Serbian White Eagles in the interprovincial Canadian Soccer League in 2010. Shaquille Agard (born December 7, 1993) is a Guyanese soccer player who plays as a forward for Canadian Soccer League club Serbian White Eagles FC. Massimo Mirabelli (born 21 October 1991) is a Canadian soccer player who last played professionally for arena soccer team Mississauga MetroStars of the Major Arena Soccer League. The Baltimore Blast is an American professional indoor soccer team based in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. The team is a part of the Major Arena Soccer League. The team has won 10 championships since it was founded in 1980. Beginning with the 2017-2018 season, home games have been played at Towson University's SECU Arena.
