The Missionary Society of St Paul of Nigeria is a Catholic religious congregation based in Nigeria and serving parishes in African, North America, Europe, and the Caribbean. It was founded by Cardinal Dominic Ekandem in 1976. History The Missionary Society of St Paul of Nigeria began as an idea in the mind of one man, its founder, Dominic Cardinal Ekandem (of blessed memory). He first conceived the idea in 1950, but took about 27 years for it to mature and see the light of day. The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria finally made the decision to establish the National Missionary Seminary of St Paul at its meeting in Kaduna in September 1976. The timely prophetic call of Pope Paul VI in 1969, in Kampala, Uganda for Africans to be Missionaries to themselves had created the needed momentum to make the idea a reality. Dominic Ignatius Ekandem (1917 – 24 November, 1995) was a Nigerian Catholic cardinal who served as Archbishop of Abuja from 1989 until 1992.. Hyacinth Oroko Egbebo, MSP is a Nigerian Catholic prelate who has served as Bishop of Bomadi since 2017. Before Bomadi became a diocese that year, he served as Apostolic Vicar of Bomadi and Titular Bishop of Lacubaza. Lacubaza was a civitas in the Roman province of Africa Proconsularis. The exact location of the town is unknown, though it is believed to have been situated in northern Tunisia. Lacubaza was the seat of an ancient Christian bishopric, a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Carthage.
