Miss Universe Spain 2013
Miss Universe Spain 2013 was the very first edition of the Miss Universe Spain pageant. It was held in the Convention Center at the Hotel Ada Palace in Madrid on 11 September 2013, exclusively for selecting the Spanish representative to Miss Universe 2013 as a result of the discontinuation of the traditional Miss Spain pageant which was last held in 2011. Beating 11 other finalists, the winner was Patricia Yurena Rodríguez, a former Miss Spain 2008 winner and Miss World 2008 semi-finalist. Patricia Yurena Rodríguez
Patricia Yurena Rodríguez Alonso (born 6 March 1990) is a Spanish model, actress, and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Spain 2008 and then Miss Universe Spain 2013. She represented Spain at Miss World 2008, where she placed in the top fifteen, and at Miss Universe 2013, where she was the first runner-up, becoming the highest-placing Spanish delegate since Teresa Sánchez López was first runner-up at Miss Universe 1985, and after Amparo Muñoz won the title in 1974. In August 2014, during the end of her reign as Miss Universe Spain, Rodríguez revealed she was in a relationship with a woman through her Instagram, becoming the first out LGBT woman to hold a major national pageant title. Miss World 2008, the 58th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 13 December 2008 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa. Originally, the pageant was going to take place in Kyiv, Ukraine, but because of the ongoing 2008 Russo-Georgian diplomatic crisis in neighbouring South Ossetia, the Miss World Organization decided to move the pageant away from Eastern Europe. 109 contestants from all over the world compete for the crown, the second highest turnout in the 59 years of the pageant.
