Miss Universe 1971
Miss Universe 1971 was the 20th Miss Universe pageant, held at the Miami Beach Auditorium in Miami Beach, Florida, United States on 24 July 1971. At the end of the event, Marisol Malaret of Puerto Rico crowned Georgina Rizk of Lebanon as Miss Universe 1971. It is the first victory of Lebanon in the competition. Contestants from 60 countries and territories participated in this year's pageant. The pageant was hosted by Bob Barker in his fifth consecutive year, while June Lockhart provided commentary and analysis throughout the event. Georgina Rizk
Georgina Rizk ( ar, جورجينا رزق, Jūrjīnā Rizq, born 23 July 1953) is a Lebanese model, socialite, and beauty queen. She represented Lebanon at the Miss Universe pageant and won, making her the first Lebanese and Middle Eastern/ West Asian woman to win that title. Prior to this, she was crowned Miss Lebanon 1970 and represented Lebanon at the Miss World competition but failed to place. She is currently a main beauty pageant judge for the Miss Lebanon contest and is the current wife of Lebanese singer and actor Walid Toufic. Biography Rizk was born in Beirut in a Christian household to a Lebanese father and Hungarian mother. Prior to marrying Rizk's father, her mother had been married to an Italian by the name of Rossi. Miss Universe 1972
Miss Universe 1972, the 21st Miss Universe pageant, was held on 29 July, 1972 at the Cerromar Beach Hotel in Dorado, Puerto Rico. Kerry Anne Wells earned Australia's first Miss Universe crown. Georgina Rizk of Lebanon, was not allowed to crown her successor due to government restrictions because of fears of a terrorist attack. Lebanon did not compete in 1972 and Georgina could not be there to crown Miss Universe 1972. Wells was crowned by Miss Universe 1970, Marisol Malaret of Puerto Rico and Miss Universe 1971 1st Runner-Up Toni Rayward. It was the first edition to be held outside the continental United States. Yousuf Karsh
Yousuf Karsh, FRPS (December 23, 1908 – July 13, 2002) was a Canadian-Armenian photographer known for his portraits of notable individuals. He has been described as one of the greatest portrait photographers of the 20th century. An Armenian genocide survivor, Karsh migrated to Canada as a refugee. By the 1930s he established himself as a significant photographer in Ottawa, where he lived most of his adult life, though he traveled extensively for work. His iconic 1941 photograph of Winston Churchill was a breakthrough point in his 60-year career, through which he took numerous photos of known political leaders, men and women of arts and sciences. Over 20 photos by Karsh appeared on the cover of ''Life'' magazine, until he retired in 1993.
